Neocons Told to Look for Reasons to Attack Iran

British newspaper the Sunday Telegraph claims that Members of the US secretariat in the UN have been asked to "search for things that Iran has done wrong", in order to justify military strikes against the country

We know precisely what the "cherry-picking" of intelligence created in Iraq: the same usual suspects are obviously up their old tricks regarding Iran.

Gov't official: No 'smoking gun' on Iran

Israel does not have "smoking gun" intelligence that will force an American reassessment of its National Intelligence Estimate that Iran halted its nuclear weapons plan in 2003, a government official told The Jerusalem Post Monday.

"Okay, you got us; we were just making it all up. Sorry. Won't happen again. Honest!"

IAEA in full control of Iran's nuclear program: Russia

Russia has said it believes Iran's nuclear programme is fully under control of the UN Nuclear watchdog and that in the presence of the international agency the Islamic country will not go for weaponisation.

Israel Still Pushing US to War on Iran

As for propaganda, it was decided during this meeting that a relentless campaign would be waged against the American report, but not by official Israeli agencies. It was agreed during the meeting that on official military and political levels in Israel it is prohibited to appear as though Israel wants to push the American administration towards military confrontation with Iran at any price. It was thus decided that this campaign would be undertaken by Israeli propaganda experts in cooperation with retired generals, atomic energy experts, and retired heads of intelligence agencies, and in coordination with the heads of Jewish groups in the United States and all American parties that have criticised the report.

The Israel Lobby and the War Party

Why should the Israelis be interested in peace, when war has been so good to them? War gave them their country to begin with: first against the British, then against the indigenous Arabs, then against the entire Arab world – all of whom they beat handily.

The Iraq war has been very good for them, if not for us. Israel's sphere of influence, which never extended much beyond Lebanon, now reaches into Kurdistan – giving them easy access to Iran.

Israel, Cheney and Bush – What Did They Know and When Did They Know It?

The information provided by McGovern citing yet another attempt by Cheney to involve US in yet another unjust, unnecessary and unconstitutional war is a monumental revelation in and of itself; but much more enlightening is the fact he points out that Cheney was aware of this impending NIE “very early this year.” What this implies is that Cheney knew this adverse, truthful and factual intelligence was being gathered and established, yet we are to believe the other members of the Cheney-Bush regime didn’t. Question: Did they or didn’t they know of this impending NIE so opposed to the administration’s foreign policy direction? It is more than likely that ALL in the administration knew about this coming NIE! Either they intended to squash and spike the report via the help of the MSM, or they figured Cheney’s arm twisting would succeed in the same manner as it did with Iraq.

US: Iran seeks nuclear weapons

The United States on Monday brushed aside the UN nuclear watchdog agency chief's warning that there was no proof Iran seeks atomic weapons, and invited him to stay out of diplomacy with Tehran.

US trains Gulf air forces for war with Iran

The American air force is working with military leaders from the Gulf to train and prepare Arab air forces for a possible war with Iran, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal.

An air warfare conference in Washington last week was told how American air chiefs have helped to co-ordinate intelligence-sharing with Gulf Arab nations and organise combined exercises designed to make it easier to fight together.

The question here is "when", not "if".

These morons in Washington (who generally do not have any family of appropriate miltary age serving in the military) appear to be hell-bent on starting the next world war.

And this time in history, it will be the US that will be the bad guy.

Report: Cheney may have mulled pushing Israel to hit Iran

Newsweek Magazine reported Sunday that Vice President Richard Cheney may have considered a plan for Israeli missile strikes against an Iranian nuclear site in an effort to draw a military response from Iran, which could in turn spark a U.S. offensive against targets in the Islamic Republic.

Jimmy Carter on Israel (3:29)

AFP: Israel on offensive against IAEA over Iran

Campaigning for tougher sanctions on Iran, Israel went on the offensive Tuesday against the UN nuclear watchdog, accusing its leaders of playing into Tehran's hands over its nuclear ambitions.

"Unfortunately there are foreign officials playing the Iranians' game by contributing to the Iranian strategy of foot-dragging," Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Mark Regev told AFP.

Memo to Israeli Foreign Ministry Spokesman Regev: if you and your government and military colleagues believe that Iran is such an "existential threat" to the existence of Israel, here's the plan.

You go in solo with a military strike against Iran, and the US and the rest of the world will simply hang back, and watch the carnage unfold. - M. R.

Bush may bypass UN with tough sanctions against Iran

President Bush is prepared to bypass the United Nations and instead work with European allies on imposing tougher sanctions against Iran’s defiant stance on its nuclear programme.

Now let's see: didn't the UN become "irrelevant" just before we bombed the heck out of Iraq?

Mainstream Media is Selling Another War

Most people are are relying on the mainstream media to learn what is going on in the world. Most people rely on TV news and TV news is not telling them what they need to know. Most people don't hunt around the internet for vital information, most people aren't learning about Dr. ElBaradi's recent statements. Dr. ElBaradei is the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency and he recently said "we have not seen any undeclared facilities operating in Iran". Did you know Iran is permitted under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to have facilities for civilian nuclear power? It's their right. Here is something else the most people are not hearing from the mainstream media: The U.S. is in violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

NEW YORK TIMES PUBLIC EDITOR FURIOUS OVER ANTI WAR AD

'All the news that's fit to print'.... that is, if it's in agreement with George W. Bush.... is this the new policy of the New York Times?

The Iran War is on the Front Burner

The real script being prepared to justify a new war in the eyes of public opinion, however, is in the making, namely that Iran is responsible for rising casualties among U.S. troops in Iraq. According to this new Hollywood-style fiction, Iran has been sending in weapons, especially the deadly IEDs, to kill American GIs, and train Shi'ite militias to fight American forces in Iraq. Anyone with a brain in his head, or, a functioning Internet connection with access to international news wires from the region, knows that these are lies. of the same caliber as those churned out by Tony Blair in the months leading up to the war on Iraq that Saddam Hussein's Iraq had sophisticated WMD, which could strike down the West in 45 minutes. Dick Cheney (the man who organized the stove piping of disinformation before the Iraq fiasco) is foremost among those propagating this line. On Sept. 14, Cheney delivered a speech in Grand Rapids, Mich., reiterating his harangue against Islamic terrorists, who, he claimed, seek to "establish a radical empire covering a region from Spain ... to Indonesia.'' According to Cheney, this justifies which the war on terrorism anywhere, everywhere, and forever:

The eerie familiarity of these preparations for war

Have we learnt nothing from the shameful and shameless run-up to the invasion of Iraq? Then, Mohammed ElBaradei, the Nobel prize-winning Egyptian head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, quietly but firmly said that as far as he and his UN agency were concerned, there was no evidence that Saddam Hussein had nuclear weapons or the materials to make them.

So here we are, nearly five years later, and exactly the same is happening over Iran. Once again the UN process of inspection is in the firing line. Once again it is the figure of ElBaradei being roundly abused and told, more or less openly by the US and British, that his work is worthless, his opinions are of no consequence and that his proper place is sitting quietly by while the European Union and the UN Security Council got on with punishing Iran through sanctions

The question appears to be, not "if" but "when" a strike will occur against Iran.

Israël veut attaquer l’Iran

Israel Divulges Plan to Nuke Iran

The US is not allowed to send foreign aid to Israel unless the President certifies that Israel does not have nuclear weapons.

Israel unveils new strategy on Iran

Israel is working together with the United States administration and the British and French governments to counter the effect caused by the US National Intelligence Estimate report last week, which stated that Iran had stopped its military nuclear programme in 2003.

ISRAEL STILL PUSHING FOR WAR ON IRAN - rec.aviation.military ...

Israel still pushing for war on Iran

U.S. report on Iran forces Israel to alter strategy.

… The Israeli dilemma is how to prove Iran is cheating without being accused of trying to push the United States into war. That is why the official strategy is to work quietly behind the scenes. …

The new Israeli strategy is based on four main elements:

· actively pushing for stiffer international sanctions on Iran, despite the U.S. report;

· working quietly behind the scenes to convince others through Israel’s own intelligence material that Iran is intent on producing nuclear weapons;

· refraining from arguing with the U.S. assessment in public, lest Israel be seen to be trying to push the United States into military action against Iran;

· and Israel keeping open its own military options. ….

"Israel unhappy with U.S. plan for Iran"

The United States reportedly has a plan for attacking Iran, but Israel considers it insufficient.

Dear Israel.

We the people of the United States will just sit back here while you go and show us how it should be done.

Olmert tells Cabinet to mute criticism of US report on Iran

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's instructions Sunday came after one of his ministers warned that the U.S. report could trigger a war. At the same time, officials said an intelligence delegation is in the U.S. to press Israel's case that Iran is still working on a nuclear bomb.

Memo to Prime Minister Olmert; in the immortal words of my wife's late grandmother, "the horse is already out of the barn."

In a coming election year, the likelihood for a US-led strike on Iran is beginning to look more and more remote after the publication of the NIE, and any efforts to characterize their leadership as that of blathering nincompoops is not going to work in Israel's favor.

Of course, understanding completely that Russia has declared that an attack on Iran will be construed as an attack on Russia, Israel is welcome to go ahead solo, and just see what happens, while the US waits this one out on the sidelines.

Israel, U.S. to meet to discuss differing assessments on Iran

These people don't have to meet to "discuss differing assessments on Iran: Israel is trying one last-ditch effort to get the US military to strike Iran while Bush is still in office

Even with every analysis of every election scenario here next November, they are unsure as to precisely how carnage-prone his successor will be on this issue, and to what lengths the US will go militarily to neutralize Israel's perceived enemies in the region.

Key Olmert ally vows to nullify Annapolis

Strategic-Affairs Minister Avigdor Lieberman threw down a clear challenge to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Wednesday when he said that his Yisrael Beiteinu party’s mission was to “make sure that nothing comes out of the Annapolis process”.

Mr Lieberman announced his position during a tour of Har Homa in Jerusalem, where building tenders caused tensions last week between the Israeli and United States governments.

Memo to Minister Lieberman: having stated so clearly that your party would put the cabosh on any possible rapprochement for peace, I have a wonderful suggestion: the US should immediately withdraw any and all aid of any kind to Israel, starting now.

And hey, if Israel wants to attack Iran all on its lonesome, please be our guest.

But remember: Russia has stated that any attack on Iran will be perceived as an an attack on Russia.

So if Israel really wants to go to war with Russia, that's fine: the citizens of the USA are really tired of neutralizing your perceived enemies in the Middle East, and are truly willing to watch Israel go it alone.

ISRAEL PLANS NUCLEAR STRIKE ON IRAN

Israel has drawn up "secret plans" to destroy Iran's uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons, according to a claim here Sunday. Two Israeli air force squadrons are training to blow up an Iranian facility using low-yield nuclear "bunker-busters", several Israeli military sources told the Sunday Times newspaper.

Israel is trying to back away from this today, but like Olmert's admission that Israel has nuclear weapons, retractions are likely to have little effect.

Middle East">Military strike is only way to stop Iran, says top Israeli strategist

A top Israeli strategic analyst says armed force is the only way to stop Iran acquiring nuclear weapons if the international community does not impose effective sanctions.

Ignoring the inconvenient fact that there is no more proof that Iran has nuclear weapons than there was for Iraq.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!

It is insulting that Israel thinks the same deception will work twice. Clearly, Israel imagines the rest of the world are total idiots ready to believe the same lie twice in a row.

Israel urges ElBaradei removal

Israel has mockingly called for the removal of IAEA chief from his post, claiming he has turned a blind eye to Iran's nuclear progress.

"Put in someone who will give us what we want; an excuse to send the Americans into Iran to kill them all for us!"

Olmert: ElBaradei 'no fan of Israel'

Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz, who previously served as IDF chief of staff and minister of defense and who is currently charged with leading strategic coordination efforts with the United States, said on Thursday morning that "ElBaradei's policy is one that endangers world peace."

Memo to Prime Minister Olmert: the only thing for which the Head of the IAEA, Mohamed El Baradei should be "a fan" is simply this: the truth.

What is happening here is, as Yogi Berra used to say. "deja vu all over again". We are again witnessing the personal smearing and crafted innuendos against the man who has stated very clearly that Iran has no weapons program.

Iran is simply building a power plant, nothing more.

Does anyone remember what happened, right before the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, when Hans Blix stated that Iraq absolutely had no weapons of mass destruction?

This is precisely the same thing.

Now, we can only wait to find out precisely when the US and Israel will declare the UN "irrelevant" again, and go in with guns blazing.

US fears Israeli strike against Iran over latest nuclear claim

A claim by President Ahmadinejad that Iran has 3,000 working uranium-enriching centrifuges sent a tremor across the world yesterday amid fears that Israel would respond by bombing the country’s nuclear facilities.

Military sources in Washington said that the existence of such a large number could be a “tipping point”, triggering an Israeli air strike. The Pentagon is reluctant to take military action against Iran, but officials say that Israel is a “different matter”. Amid the international uproar, British MPs who were to have toured the nuclear facility were backing out of their Iran trip.

The "fear" about such a strike has little to do with a potential Israeli strike against Iran: it has everything to do with the promise Bush has made to Israel that we will support it military, no matter who starts shooting.

So if Israel attacks Iran (and remember, members of Russia's government have stated unequivocally that an attack against Iran equals an attack against Russia) we're off and running militarily in support of Israel.

This will, in fact, trigger World War III.

FACT SHEET: U.S. SANCTIONS LAWS RELATED TO FOREIGN POLICY

NUCLEAR PROLIFERATION PREVENTION ACT OF 1994 (April 30, 1994)

Sections 821 and 824 mandate sanctions against any person determined to have helped a non-nuclear-weapon state acquire nuclear material or devices. The sanctions prohibit any such person from bidding on U.S. federal government procurement or from dealing in federal bonds.

Section 825 prohibits the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) from providing credits to any country that helps a non-nuclear-weapon state acquire nuclear devices or materials.

The law also amends the Arms Export Control Act in a number of ways. It prohibits U.S. government sales of munitions and defense services to countries violating nuclear non-proliferation agreements. It prohibits foreign aid to any country that receives or delivers to another country nuclear enrichment materials or technology without proper safeguards or that attempts to export illegally from the United States anything used to make nuclear weapons. It also requires a number of sanctions against both sides in a transfer of nuclear devices, components, or designs from any country to a non-nuclear-weapon country.

In other words, between Olmert's admission that Israel has nuclear weapons, and Israel's announcement of plans to attack Iran with nuclear "Bunker Busters", Israel is now legally blocked from US Foreign Aid, under US laws.

FLASHBACK: Israeli Arms Sales to Iran

Although secrecy is the first principle in the netherworld of arms trading, details of several subsequent major Israeli arms sales to Iran have come to light. In 1981, Ya'acov Nimrodi, an intimate of leaders across the Israeli political spectrum, sold the Iranian defense ministry $135,842,000 worth of Hawk anti-aircraft missiles, 155 mm. mortars, ammunition, and other weapons through his Tel Aviv-based company, International Desalination Equipment, Ltd. From 1955 to 1979 Nimrodi had been Israel's military attache in Tehran.

On July 24, 1984, Radio Luxembourg reported that Nimrodi had met in Zurich with the deputy defense minister and the top intelligence officer of Iran and with Rif'at al-Assad, the brother of Syrian President Hafez al-Assad. Swiss government sources said that the meeting resulted in a deal to ship 40 truckloads of weapons a day from Israel to Iran, via Syria and Turkey.

On September 15, 1985, a DC-8 cargo plane returning from Iran and supposedly bound for Malaga, Spain, made an emergency landing in Tel Aviv. Investigation revealed that the plane— recently acquired from an obscure Miami firm by a shadowy Brussels-based "Nigerian" company—had been flying Hawk missiles from the US to Iran via Israel. A Boeing 707 registered to the company had been carrying loads of 1,250 TOW missiles from Israel to Iran via Malaga.

If Iran is such a bad guy and threat to Israel, why has Israel been selling them weapons; weapons our kids will have to face when they invade Iran ... for Israel.

Poll: Most Israelis support using nukes

Approximately 72 percent of Israelis support the use of nuclear weapons in certain circumstances, according to a Canadian survey released recently.

Nearly 72% also agreed that "nuclear weapons place Israel in a unique position, so it is not in our interest to participate in treaties that would reduce or eliminate our purported nuclear arsenal."

You have to laugh at that phrase "purported nuclear arsenal".

Israel can drop its purported "nuclear ambivalence" act, because the entire world knows Israel has nukes.

But if Israel refuses to participate in any programs which might reduce or eliminate that arsenal, why should any other countries want to participate in any such treaties?

And unfortunately, courtesy of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq, the world knows what can happen to countries with resources the world wants which don't have a nuclear deterrent.

Iran Issues Warning to Israel Over Reported Nuke Threat

In Tehran, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini told a news conference that the newspaper report "will make clear to the world public opinion that the Zionist regime (Israel) is the main menace to global peace and the region".

He said "any measure against Iran will not be left without a response and the invader will regret its act immediately."

Israel denies planning attack on Iran's nuclear facilities

israel denies the obvious yet again

Citing multiple unidentified Israeli military sources, The Sunday Times said the proposals involved using so-called "bunker-buster" nuclear weapons to attack nuclear facilities at three sites south of the Iranian capital.

Side note: Nuclear "Bunker busters" did not exist prior to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Therefore, for Israel to possess those weapons now means one of two things.

1. Israel has one or more nuclear weapons manufacturing facilities.

2. Israel has been engaging in illegal arms transfers involving weapons of mass destruction.

Take your pick.

US to speed up stealth fighter delivery to Israel

During meetings Defense Minister Ehud Barak held at the Pentagon last week, US defense officials agreed to allow Israel to begin receiving the aircraft as early as 2012, when delivery to the United States Air Force is set to begin.

"We asked that for every two jets manufactured for the US, one be manufactured for Israel," a senior defense official said, adding that acquisition of the aircraft would greatly increase Israel's deterrence as Iran races toward nuclear power.

This has nothing to do with Iran: it has everything to do with Israel's plans to acquire more territory in the region as part of "Eretz Israel" - by any means necessary.

How do we know that?

Because Israel admits Iran is not really a threat!

New York - The United Nations should avail itself as an instrument for a "new world order of the 21st century," French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Tuesday in his first address to the General Assembly. Sarkozy, who won the presidency this year on a strong reform platform to modernize France, urged the world body to embark on programmes ranging from equal wealth distribution to fighting corruption in his speech full of references to France's past revolutionary ideals.

Sarkozy says letting Iran go nuclear could cause war

Allowing Iran to acquire nuclear weapons could destabilize the world and lead to war, French President Nicolas Sarkozy told the United Nations on Tuesday.

In a broader warning against the dangers of appeasement, the new French leader said: "Weakness and renunciation do not lead to peace. They lead to war."

The reason that Bush did not come out directly with a verbal attack on Iran is that Sarkozy did it for him.

Looks like Bush has found his new "poodle", now that Tony Blair is off "creating peace in the Middle East" (I'd laugh at that one: it would just be way too hard to stop, though!)

War clouds loom ever more menacingly over Iran

FROM this week, it emerged that Britain and France have joined Jordan and the United Arab Emirates as allies in a new US war against Iran.

Defence Secretary Robert Gates is believed to be pushing hardest against war, and is working with the directors of National Intelligence and the CIA to advise Bush against attacking Iran. Against them are pro-war neo-conservatives led by Cheney.

The only force appearing to be countering this mad rush to war in the US is Secretary of Defense Gates.

However, it's anyone's guess how effective he will be against the likes of Cheney, et al.

Iran, the Decider, and the Enablers

The heart of the Bush philosophy, "The rules don't apply to me," could never have been put into practice without the Cheney corollary: "Tear up the rules, do what you want, and hide it." Iran will be their last field of exercise together.

The dates can only be guessed. November for the triggering incident, December for the trip to the U.N., February for the ultimatum, perhaps March again for the strikes. The repetition would suit his taste for boyish acts of defiance.

To the military of this country, statesmen and stateswomen, and congress members who have somehow not had their conscience surgically removed, and who love this country, We The People implore you: please do everything humanly possible to prevent this.

This conflict will not be regional: it will be global, and this time, the US will be the absolute instigator of a senseless war.

Rabbis Say Iran Seeks Peace, Respects Judaism - Calls for True Dialogue With Ahmadinejad

Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss, spokesman of Neturei Karta International, issued the following statement on the eve of the group's meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

"It is always our pleasure to visit with President Ahmadinejad. This will be the third such meeting, in addition to our many visits to Iran in the past. We have each time emphasized to the Iranian leadership that, despite media hysteria and the statements of some misinformed Jews, we have found the Iranian people and their leaders to be friendly and respectful.

Iran's Ahmadinejad: No attack on Israel

"Iran will not attack any country," Ahmadinejad told The Associated Press, when asked if his country would ever strike first against Israel. Iran has always maintained a defensive policy, not an offensive one, he said, and has "never sought to expand its territory."

History bears this out. Despite the pro-war rhetoric, the reality is that Iran does not initiate wars of conquest. Israel does and has. Israel just attacked Syria. A year ago they attacked Lebanon.

As for nuclear threat, one and only one nation has ever actually used nuclear weapons against the civilians of another country, and that nation is the United States of America.

Explosive charge blows up in US's face

When the United States military command accused the Iranian Quds Force in January of providing the armor-piercing EFPs (explosively formed penetrators) that were killing US troops, it knew that Iraqi machine shops had been producing their own EFPs for years, a review of the historical record of evidence on EFPs in Iraq shows.

The record also shows that the US command had considerable evidence that the Mahdi Army of Shi'ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr had received the technology and the training on how to use it from Hezbollah, rather than Iran.

"Why worsen the situation and bring it to a dead end by threatening sanctions or military action," Putin said in a veiled reference to the U.S. push for harsher international sanctions against Tehran.

Putin's observations are statesmanly, rational, and sane: which is why Washington will ignore them completely.

Buried in the White House's $196 billion emergency funding request for Iraq and Afghanistan is a line that has some analysts watching the prospect of an Iran strike concerned: $88 million to modify US jets so they can carry a newly developed 30,000-pound bomb called the massive ordnance penetrator.

US to order sanctions against Iran military

The United States will Thursday order sanctions against the Iranian military, media reports said a day after Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice singled out Iran as the biggest threat to US security.

Iran to use "all means" to defend itself if attacked

Iran said on Wednesday it would use "all our means" to defend itself if attacked by the West, three days after France's foreign minister publicly raised the possibility of war over Tehran's disputed nuclear activities.

There is no dispute. France is also a signer of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which allows Iran to develop and build nuclear power plants and to manufacture the fuel rods for them.

Rice swipes at IAEA, urges bold action on Iran

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice scolded the U.N.'s atomic watchdog agency on Wednesday over its Iran strategy and called for diplomacy with "teeth" to end Tehran's nuclear plans.

We saw this prior to the conquest of Iraq. The IAEA reported that there was no evidence of weapons of mass destruction. The US slammed the inspectors and invaded anyway, and of course, there really were no weapons of mass destruction.<>Now we see a repeat of the same worn tactic, claims that the inspectors who report that Iran is only building a power station (which they are allowed to do under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) are not doing their jobs, followed by indications of a coming attack.

As a reminder, only one nation in history has ever actually used nuclear weapons against the civilians of another country, and that nation is the United States of America.

****WHAT THE HECK IS THIS STUFF?

... and why does it prove Iran is not a threat to the United States?
