Gaza & Israël: Tous les articles importants - Série no.4

Unusually Large U.S. Weapons Shipment to Israel: Are the US and Israel Planning a Broader Middle East War?

- by Michel Chossudovsky - 2009-01-11

A Scenario of Escalation. Large weapons shipments for a future military operation?

U.S. arms shipment to Israel canceled due to Gaza conflict

A U.S. military plan to ship munitions from a Greek port to a U.S. stockpile in Israel has been canceled due to the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Pentagon said on Monday.

The request to shippers had now been canceled due to safety concerns at the final destination related to the conflict in Gaza, Ryder said. Israel's military offensive in the Gaza Strip seeks to halt rocket fire by Hamas militants aimed at southern Israel.

Webmaster's Commentary:

GOOD!!! (Assuming the story is true and not just face-saving by the US)

Greece hinders US arms delivery to Israel

The US has to re-route arms shipment to Israel as Athens declined to allow a Greek port be used as a transit point, fearing nationwide protests.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, the US weapons (which you paid for) are still going to Israel, just via another route.

Kudos to the Greek people for forcing their government to act.

Model of Diplomacy: A Greek Returning Gifts

Phosphore Blanc

This video answers the question.

The only countries that seem to use it are the US, Russia and Israel (though Israeli war party spokesmen love to throw in the fact that Canada has used it too, probably in joint operations with the US.)

Is it moral, or even legal, to use it in densely populated areas?

Certainly not, so the US news media does its best to keep the reality that these weapons are being used this way at the level of a "rumor."

A rumor verified by video...

US, Russia and Israel are also the only countries that actively use cluster bombs.

Grave Mistake

Israeli forces hit UN headquarters

The Associated Press

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Israeli forces shelled the United Nations headquarters in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, setting the compound on fire as UN chief Ban Ki-moon was in the area on a mission to end Israel's devastating offensive against the territory's Hamas rulers.

Ban expressed "outrage" over the bombing. He said Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak told him there had been a "grave mistake" and promised to pay extra attention to protecting UN installations.

Secretary General outraged at shelling of UN building in Gaza

The U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon says he has expressed "strong protest and outrage" to Israel over the shelling of a United Nations compound in Gaza City.

“I conveyed my strong protest and outrage to the defense minister and the foreign minister and demanded a full explanation," Ban said, adding that he had demanded an investigation into the shelling.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is time to throw Israel out of the United Nations. If Israel will not act like a civilized nation, they should not be kept in the company of civilized nations.

Livni is on her way to Washington to give orders from Tel Aviv.

Thu Jan 15, 2009

JERUSALEM, Jan 15 (Reuters) - Israel said on Thursday Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni would travel to Washington to finalise an accord designed to prevent Hamas from rearming, a key Israeli condition for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
(and who's going to prevent Israel from rearming??)

"Prime Minister Ehud Olmert authorised this evening the trip of Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to the United States in order to promote an American-Israeli outlined agreement intended to deal with weapons smuggling," Olmert's office said in a statement.

McDonald’s and Starbucks have yesterday announced that they will be donating all profits from now until Sunday to Israeli war. Also, the producers of Adam Sandler’s new movie Bed Time Stories will be donating their profits to THE Zionist entity of Israel.

Starbucks Supports Israel

Chairman, president and CEO of Starbucks, Howard Schultz is a Jew who actively supports Israel through his multi-million dollar company.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I received an email claiming that the boycott story below about Starbuck's supporting Israel was a hoax, so I did a little digging
and this is just one of many articles I found.

ARCHIVED STARBUCKS WEB PAGE SHOWING HOWARD SHULTZ RECEIVING "The Israel 50th Anniversary Tribute Award" - The Jerusalem Fund of Aish HaTorah - August 27, 1998

Webmaster's Commentary:

This particular award has been erased from the official Starbuck's website.

Starbucks CEO Calls Himself ‘an Active Zionist,’ but Can You Find It Anywhere on the Web?

A quick check on the Internet “Starbucks-Israel” didn’t reveal anything fishy. Starbucks Headquarters issued a statement last month denying the close alliance, called “Starbucks Rumor Response,” and dated July 21, 2006, it read: “Neither Chairman Howard Schultz nor Starbucks fund or support the Israeli Army. Starbucks is a non-political organization and does not support individual political causes.”

However, googling “Starbucks-Israeli settlements,” revealed a goldmine of information.

A Muslim website had the most extensive information about Starbucks CEO Schultz: http://www.inminds.co.uk/boycott-starbucks.html

On this website, it notes an award given to Schultz is no longer listed on the Starbucks website: “In 1998 he was honored by the Jerusalem Fund of Aish HaTorah with ‘The Israel 50th Anniversary Friend of Zion Tribute Award’ for his services to the Zionist state in ‘playing a key role in promoting close alliance between the United States and Israel.”

Protesters close Beirut Starbucks branch

About one hundred demonstrators angry with Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip shut down a Starbucks store Tuesday, shouting anti-Israel slogans and causing customers inside to flee.

The protest in Beirut is the latest of a series of demonstrations across the Arab world since Israel launched its offensive, designed to stop Hamas rocket fire into Israel, on Dec. 27; more than 900 Palestinians have been killed in the fighting.

The protesters said they targeted the store because they claim that Howard Schultz, the company's CEO, chairman and president, donates money to the Israeli military. A spokeswoman for the Seattle, Washington-based conglomerate called accusations Starbucks supports Israel "false" and said the political preferences of one of its employees has no bearing on the company's policies.

FOCUSED LETHALITY:Phosphorous Bomb Rain Over Northern Gaza

On Friday,PCHR,the Palestinian Center for Human Rights in Gaza accused in a statement, the Israelis of using phosphorous bombs over Gaza Strip.Raji Sourani, the chairman of PCHR, said that "This is not the first time we [PCHR] have documented the Israelis use of prohibited chemical weapons against the Gaza civilian population. The HRW Human Rights Watch senior analyst Marc Garlasco said in an interview on France Chanel 4 TV that .."Israeli artillery bursted fire of white phosphorous shells over Gaza City."Garlasco said .."I have been standing at the border for the last few days ,watching Israeli artillery firing white phosphorus shells into refugee camps".

Israel battles Hamas as toll passes 900

Israeli infantry units battled with Hamas fighters across Gaza on Monday as Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said he hoped Egyptian peace efforts could bring about a swift end to the war.

At least 19 people were reported killed in Monday's clashes, medics said, pushing the overall toll past the 900 mark in a 17-day-old conflict which has also wounded nearly 4,000 people.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Olmert will stall as long as humanly possible until all of Gaza is overtaken, and occupied, by Israel.

Israel admits: "No Hamas rockets were fired during ceasefire"

The Israeli Spokesman (Australian born!) Merk Regev, accepts that Hamas did NOT violate the Ceasefire UNTIL AFTER Israel attacked the Gaza Strip on the 4th November! This proves that it was ISRAEL that broke the ceasefire!

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel broke the cease fire, then unleashed hell on the Gazans while screaming "Self defense!"

Bill for keeping control of anti-Israel mobs hits £1 million

Webmaster's Commentary:

Excuse me, but "Mobs?"

Israel has admitted HAMAS kept the cease fire; and that Israel broke it, then unleashed a total starvation blockade on Gaza followed by flaming death from the sky aimed at schools, hospitals, ambulances, and children, and you dare call the people opposed to such barbarity a "mob?"

Feel free to write the Daily Mail and tell them what you think of their obvious biases here!

Israel Is Committing War Crimes

Israel's current assault on the Gaza Strip cannot be justified by self-defense. Rather, it involves serious violations of international law, including war crimes. Senior Israeli political and military leaders may bear personal liability for their offenses, and they could be prosecuted by an international tribunal, or by nations practicing universal jurisdiction over grave international crimes. Hamas fighters have also violated the laws of warfare, but their misdeeds do not justify Israel's acts.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Actually, Israel has admitted that HAMAS did not fire any rockets into Israel during the cease fire. It was Israel that broke the cease fire on November 4th with the attack into Gaza that killed 6 Palestinians.

Israel Set to Ban Arab Opposition Party From Elections

As a popular party with Israel’s large Arab minority, the Balad Party has been seen as a prime mover behind the nation’s domestic antiwar movement. Though officials have repeatedly warned them that "there is a limit to democracy" in Israel, this opposition party never seems to have fully learned its lesson.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is no limit to Democracy.

A nation is either Democratic, or only pretending to be.

Iranian aid ship nearing Gaza Strip

A ship loaded with humanitarian aid en route to Gaza from the Islamic Republic of Iran is scheduled to make landfall within hours, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

ISRAEL BLOCKS AID SHIP FROM REACHING GAZA!

"An Iranian ship that was carrying foodstuff and medicine was stopped by the Zionist regime's navy 20 miles off the coast of Gaza," radio reported, adding that the ship had left the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas 13 days earlier.

Gaza-bound Iranian aid ship turned away by Israel

Israeli warships have ordered an Iranian vessel carrying humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza to leave the area, an Iranian aid official was quoted as saying by the semi-official Fars News Agency.

Iran, which has condemned the Jewish state for attacking the coastal territory, earlier this week said the aid ship was nearing Gaza but state radio reported yesterday it had been stopped by Israel's navy.

Israel Threatens to Shoot Unarmed Civilians aboard Mercy Ship

At roughly 3am UST (1am GMT), in international waters 100 miles off the coast of Gaza, at least five Israeli gunboats surrounded the SPIRIT OF HUMANITY and began recklessly cutting in front of the slow-moving civilian craft. The Israeli warships radioed the SPIRIT, demanding that the ship turn around or they would open fire and "shoot." When asked if the Israeli navy was acknowledging that they intended to commit a war crime by deliberately firing on unarmed civilians, the warships replied that they were prepared to use "any means" to stop the ship.

An earlier attempt by Free Gaza to deliver doctors and medical supplies ended on 30 December when Israeli gunboats deliberately and repeatedly rammed the DIGNITY, almost sinking that ship. Rather than endanger the lives of its passengers, the SPIRIT is now returning to Cyprus.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Nazis allowed Red Cross aid packages to be delivered to occupied territories and even prisoners of war during WW2.

Iran warns Israel over aid ship interception

Under the Fourth Geneva Convention on Rules of War relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War adopted in 1949, Israel is obliged to provide "every facility for making application to the Protecting Powers, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the National Red Cross (Red Crescent, Red Lion and Sun) Society of the country where they may be, as well as to any organization that might assist them".

Israel seeks airwave supremacy

Israel has been aiming for total air supremacy in more than one way in Gaza - it wants to dominate the airwaves of the news organisations with its own narrative.

UK, Europe hit with riots over Israel's Gaza campaign

A London protest against the Israeli military campaign in Gaza turned violent Saturday night as police charged demonstrators outside the gates of Israel's embassy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like the government of Great Britain has a "Special Relationship" with Israel as well.

Israeli military abducting as many Gaza youth as possible for “Information”

Hundreds of Palestinians have become the captives of Israeli forces during the current military operation in the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian member of the Israeli Knesset and head of the parliamentary assembly, Dr. Jamal Zahalka, said Friday that the detainees were moved to a military camp northwest of the Israeli city of Beerseba.

Israel losing PR war

As allegations of war crimes mount and anti-Israeli protests sweep across the globe, Israel appears to be losing its PR offensive against Hamas.

Commentary: It's time for the U.N. to impose tough sanctions on Israel

It's time for the United Nations to shed its impotency and impose tough sanctions on Israel. That would be the least the United Nations could do after sitting silently for years through a "peace process" that Israel has used as a cover to grab Palestinian land.

Israel testing nasty weapons in Gaza, claims Mads Gilbert

"There's a very strong suspicion I think that Gaza is now being used as a test laboratory for new weapons," Mads Gilbert said at Oslo's Gardermoen airport, commenting on the kinds of injuries he and his colleague Erik Fosse had seen while working at the Shifa Hospital in Gaza.

The two medics, who were sent into the war zone by the pro-Palestinian aid organisation NORWAC on December 31, said they had seen clear signs that Dense Inert Metal Explosives (DIME), an experimental kind of explosive, were being used in Gaza.

Gaza residents: IDF troops posing as Hamas men

The testimonies of Gaza Strip residents are revealing new details about the Israel Defense Forces' mode of operation there. In the past two days, Beit Lahia residents forced from their homes said soldiers were posing as members of Hamas' armed wing while advancing on the ground.

Israel prepares to escalate its war on Gaza

Webmaster's Commentary:

Read this carefully. Israel is talking about grabbing a piece of Egypt under the "Security buffer" excuse.

You Want Proof of the Zionist Control of Congress — Here it is!

All you have to do is the look at the resolution recently passed by the House of Representatives (HRES 34 EH) with only 5 dissenting votes, to know who rules America. It condemns Hamas and the people of Gaza as terrorists but has no mention of the decades long Israeli occupation and strangulation of the West Bank and Gaza, or the bloody terrorism of tens of thousands of Palestinian men, women and children who have been killed, maimed, tortured or made homeless by years of Israel’s terrorism.

The very recent human casualties of over 850 dead and over 4500 maimed from Israel’s recent terror bombings of the 1.5 million people of Gaza would by their population percentage be equivalent to 175,000 murdered and 900,000 maimed Americans, more than one million American casualties. The percentage of Palestinian victims of Zionist terrorism over the past two weeks is proportionately one thousand times greater than the loss that Americans suffered in the 9-11 attacks!

Gaza: UN official reports horrific hospital scenes of casualties

Appalled that fighting was still continuing in Gaza despite the Security Council’s ceasefire resolution, senior United Nations officials said today they were horrified at the human costs amid reports that over 40 per cent of the nearly 900 Palestinians killed in the Israeli offensive, and almost half of the 3,860 wounded, were women and children.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Bush backs Israel as death toll tops 900

Israel won renewed support from its key ally the United States on Monday when President George W. Bush said a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip depended on Hamas ending its rocket fire on Israeli towns.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So now the United States government is defying the United Nations.

All the more so because Israel has now admitted that HAMAS did not fire any rockets into Israel prior to Israel's attack.

Israel says all weapons legal amid phosphorus claims

The Israeli army has insisted that all weapons being used in its Gaza campaign were within the bounds of international law, amid accusations it was using controversial white phosphorus shells.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel also claimed that no civilians were being killed.

Israel also claimed that there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Gaza situation: Israel using chemical weapons in the camps.

Israel is believed to be using controversial white phosphorus shells to screen its assault on the heavily populated Gaza Strip yesterday. The weapon, used by British and US forces in Iraq, can cause horrific burns but is not illegal if used as a smokescreen.

The smokescreen clause is exactly that - an implausible legal smokescreen.

The Geneva Treaty of 1980 stipulates that white phosphorus should not be used as a weapon of war in civilian areas, but there is no blanket ban under international law on its use as a smokescreen or for illumination. However, Charles Heyman, a military expert and former major in the British Army, said: “If white phosphorus was deliberately fired at a crowd of people someone would end up in The Hague. White phosphorus is also a terror weapon. The descending blobs of phosphorus will burn when in contact with skin.”

Right, you use white phosphorus for illumination... illumination in the middle of the day.

Israel's Moral and Political Insanity

excerpt:

One Israeli settler leader recently argued 'if it was right to commit genocide during Biblical time, why can’t it be right to commit genocide now. Has God changed his mind,' the settler wondered sarcastically."

Israeli peace activist and author Uri Avnery has an expression for this type of thinking. He calls it "moral insanity", a sociopathic disorder.

Israeli Sightseers Flock to Border to Watch Gaza Killings

They come with binoculars. They bring their families and take pictures. They rationalize away the deaths of hundreds of children by reasoning that “when they grow up they’ll also probably be terrorists.” Its like the fourth of July, only instead of watching fireworks and listening to crappy instrumental music on the radio they watch with barely restrained jubilation as their neighbors are killed under a heavy military bombardment and ground forces continue to pour deeper into the Gaza Strip.

The obsession with watching the violence unfold in the Gaza Strip is creeping-out even some of their fellow Israelis, who have dubbed the site “The Hill of Shame” and watch disapprovingly as others participate in Israel’s newest spectator sport.

Pure Propaganda From the Papers of Record

The Israeli propaganda machine has called up its allies in the media and Congress to make sure that no one will condemn the invasion of Gaza, which has killed and wounded thousands of Palestinians, most of them civilians and many of them children. The pictures of small bodies lined up to be buried are convincing evidence that something is very wrong in Gaza, but leaders in Congress from both parties have nonetheless rallied to the cause of Israeli victimhood, putting all the blame for the conflict on the Palestinians.

Is Israel calling the shots on US foreign policy?

Olmert further elaborated how it worked. He spoke about how President Bush answered his call even though he was in the midst of giving a speech in Philadelphia.

He said, "I need to talk to Bush now. He got off the podium and spoke to me. He immediately called the Secretary of State and told her not to vote in favour."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Olmert's hubris has let the cat out of the bag and right now the citizens of every nation on Earth who wonder why their own governments are so supportive of the war crimes of Israel are wondering just how many subversives are at work in their own nations.

The New York Times and the Gaza crisis: Israeli war propaganda in the guise of news

The New York Times is the leading media organ of US liberalism and is closely aligned to the Democratic Party. In recent days it has planted a series of propaganda pieces disguised as news articles, which aim to justify Israel’s war crimes in Gaza.

These articles appear in the context of worldwide revulsion at the criminal methods Israel is using in the densely populated Gaza strip, home to 1.4 million people. So far, more than 900 Palestinians have been killed, about half of them civilians, and thousands more have been wounded in an Israeli air, sea and ground assault that is utilizing advanced weapons supplied by the United States against a virtually defenseless population.

Israel Fakes Rocket-Fire Fatalities in Order to Launch Offensive Against Palestinians

For years there were no fatalities in Israel from the thousands of rockets fired over the border from Gaza, but after the Israeli Defense Forces launched a major offensive on December 27th against the Hamas militants responsible for the missiles, suddenly Hamas "got lucky," killing four people in Israel in three days.

But---Cui bono---it was Israel who needed Jewish fatalities to justify its aggression against the Palestinians of Gaza, and I submit an examination of the public record, along with a little common sense, will prove that Israel either faked these deaths or was actually responsible for the killings themselves.

Cross-party fury of MPs at Israel

BRITISH MPs yesterday lined up to give their strongest condemnation yet of Israel's actions in Gaza, branding Ehud Olmert's government "mass murderers" and calling for the country to face sanctions.
David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, faced cross-party demands for Israel's ambassador to be expelled from London and for Britain to recall its representative from Tel Aviv.

The strongest criticism in the one hour session, that followed a statement from the Foreign Secretary, came from Sir Gerald Kaufman, a former Labour minister, who is Jewish.

Directing his fury at the Israeli prime minister, foreign minister and defence minister, he said: "Olmert, (Tzipi] Livni and (Ehud] Barak are mass murderers, war criminals and bring shame on the Jewish people whose Star of David they use as a badge in Gaza."

He suggested the British government would have taken a more strident tone if it had been Hamas who had "slaughtered 900 Israelis".

Webmaster's Commentary:

And he is right!

Hillary Clinton promises new approach to diplomacy

Los Angeles Times Politics | Paul Richter | Jan 14, 2009

Clinton spoke easily about a range of problems worldwide, addressing the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip for the first time. She acknowledged that problems in the Middle East might seem intractable, but said, "We cannot give up on peace."

Clinton echoed the Bush administration stand in part by declaring: "You cannot negotiate with Hamas until it renounces violence, recognizes Israel and agrees to abide by past agreements. That is just for me an absolute. That is the United States government's position; that is the president-elect's position."

Clinton offered no specifics on how she will try to end the fighting between Israel and Hamas, a task she will confront as soon as she takes office.

Israel defends munitions amid white phosphorus accusations

And two Norwegian doctors, recently returned from working in the Gaza Strip, accused Israel of using the territory as a testing ground for a new "extremely nasty" type of explosive.

An army spokesman refused to confirm or deny claims it was using white phosphorus, saying: "All weapons used by the IDF (Israel Defence Forces) are in accordance with international law.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Bovine Excrement Meter just hurled a few steps short of the computer on this one.

And as to the comment stating "The type of munitions used by Israel are similar, if not identical, to munitions used by other Western democracies, including NATO members", Regev is perfectly correct.

Unfortunately, however, it is our country, the US, which used white phosphorous weapons in the siege of Fallujah in Iraq.

Campaigns Urge Boycott of US Firms over Gaza Massacre

An extensive campaign was launched several days ago, calling for a boycott of American companies over the Bush administration's support for the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip. Thousands of people from all across the world have already joined the boycott efforts.

The companies mentioned in the campaign are McDonald's, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Coca Cola and the Marlboro cigarette brand. The people behind the campaign urge that if all people worldwide were to stop purchasing American products, the United States economy would lose $8.6 billion a month.

Israel Uses Gazans as Human Shields

Activists disrupt Israel's PR operation

Activists disrupted the offices of the British Israel Communications and Research Centre (BICOM) in central London this morning. The lobby group's media centre, which is playing a key role in Israel's public relations operation during the assault on Gaza, was shut down as protesters occupied the building.

Photographs of civilian casualties from Gaza were pasted on to the computer screens of public relations executives, phone lines cut off to halt the organisation's media rebuttal unit and leaflets thrown out of window on to the main road and handed out to staff pressing them to confront the truth about the human cost of Israeli aggression.

Palestinian doctor killed by IDF while treating Gaza wounded

A 28-year-old Palestinian doctor in the Gaza refugee camp of Jabalya was killed by Israel Defense Forces fire this week while on his way to remove casualties from a building being targeted by Israeli missiles, according to the Mizan human rights group in Gaza.

Diplomats: Gaza op causing long-term harm to Israel's image

The straw that broke the camel's back for that ambassador was the Red Cross report from Gaza that small children had been found wounded, near the corpses of their mothers, under the ruins of their homes, and other reports of civilians on the verge of dying in places ambulances could not reach because of the fighting.

"The international organizations in Gaza are talking about 200 dead children," he said. "I don't know how to explain these things to myself, never mind to my government," added the ambassador. "Your action is brutal and you don't realize how much damage this is causing you in the world. This is not only short term. It's damage for years. Is this the Israel you want to be?"

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, Israel doesn't give a damn what anyone else thinks, because they feel secure in their belief that the terrible Jewish experience during the Holocaust indemnifies them forever from any repercussions for any acts against any of their neighbors.

And so how is that manifesting right now in Gaza?

We are seeing genocide against the Palestinians, including pre-emptive infanticide of Palestinian kids.

We are seeing the use of weapons like white phosphorous (or whatever they're calling it this week) against Palestinians.

But there are a couple of things which just might get Israel's attention on this:

1. The immediate cessation of military aid from all countries to Israel.

2. The immediate cessation of all financial aid to Israel from all countries.

Israel believes that these things will never happen, because this country has done such a good job of portraying itself as the perpetual victim.

However, due to global communications, Israel is losing the propaganda war, big-time. We're seeing the bodies of civilians, broken and mutilated. We're seeing dead children being buried. And we're seeing the burn victims, courtesy of Israel's use of "white phosphorous-lite" weaponry.

This coverage will continue, and it will be an ongoing PR nightmare for Israel that will not go away.

So, to all those Israeli politicians who felt "butch" about this attack on Gaza; please be careful what you wish for. You may yet reap the bitter fruits of unintended consequences in a very spectacular way.

'More than 1,000 killed in Gaza'

Nearly a third of the dead are reported to be children and nearly 5,000 people have been injured.

Israel losing 4th Gen War conflict in Gaza

On the moral level, the picture is reversed. Hamas, the Islamic Resistance Movement, is almost assured of victory. As Israeli military historian Martin van Creveld has observed, all it has to do to claim victory is survive, which it will. That claim will not be just propaganda: For Hamas to survive everything a modern state military can throw at it is a legitimate victory. In fact, it not only will survive but also will be strengthened by a worldwide flood of sympathy, which will translate in part into new recruits and more money.

In the end, if Israel wants to stop Hamas' rockets, it will be able to do so only by making a deal with Hamas. Since that was equally true before the war, the question of why it was fought will soon present itself. The real reason is a tad sordid: The current Israeli government is trying to split the "get tough" vote to prevent the Likud Party from winning the next election.

Hamas accepts Egyptian truce: Spain

Spain says the Hamas movement has accepted an Egyptian proposal for a cease-fire to put an end to Israel's military aggression in Gaza.

"Hamas is going to publicly express its support and acceptance," Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos told the reporters Wednesday after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

The truce calls for an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in the densely-populated Gaza Strip, which would be followed by negotiations on long-term arrangements including an end to the blockade of the impoverished regional coast.

An unnamed Egyptian official said earlier that the Palestinian resistance group had agreed to the proposal and that Cairo was awaiting Israeli response, AFP reported.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel was supposed to end the blockade as part of the LAST cease fire. And they did not do that.

So I am not expecting Israel to agree to this proposal.

Israelis 'shot at fleeing Gazans'

Claims have been received by the BBC and an Israeli human rights group that Israeli troops have fired on Gaza residents trying to escape the conflict area. Israel has strongly denied the allegations.

BBC journalists in Gaza and Israel have compiled detailed accounts of the claims.

Some Palestinian civilians in Gaza say Israeli forces shot at them as they tried to leave their homes - in some cases bearing white flags.

One testimony heard by the BBC and human rights group B'tselem describes Israeli forces shooting a woman in the head after she stepped out of her house carrying a piece of white cloth, in response to an Israeli loudhailer announcement.

Gaza Situation Updates 13/01/2009 till 14/01/2009

"The Israeli army's is targeting medical missions continuously, and hampering its access to casualties. We receive calls from the people in the isolated areas asking help. We could not respond to the calls unless coordination is made by the ICRC. We could not proceed because the Israeli army is targeting the ambulances and the medical teams. Our medical teams' life is in danger". Dr. Muhamad Awadeh, PRCS' director of EMS, said.

Israel Has Managed to Lose Again

Haaretz reported today that IDF Senior officials "believe that Israel should strive to reach an immediate cease-fire with Hamas, and not expand its offensive against the Palestinian Islamist group in Gaza."

UN chief condemns Israeli shelling of UN compound

The U.N. chief says he has expressed "strong protest and outrage" to Israel over the shelling of a United Nations compound in Gaza City.

Ban Ki-moon is demanding an investigation into Thursday's shelling. He says Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has told him it was a "grave mistake."

Israeli shells damaged the international organization's headquarters in Gaza City, according to witnesses and U.N. officials. U.N. spokesman Chris Gunness says at least three people were wounded.

UN headquarters in Gaza hit by Israeli 'white phosphorus' shells

The main UN compound in Gaza was in flames today after being struck by Israeli artillery fire, and a spokesman said that the building had been hit by shells containing the incendiary agent white phosphorus.

The attack on the headquarters of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) came as Ban Ki Moon, the UN Secretary-General, arrived in Israel on a peace mission and plunged Israel's relations with the world body to a new low.

The Iron Wall

"Zionist colonization must either stop, or else proceed regardless of the native population. Which means that it can proceed and develop only under the protection of a power that is independent of the native population - behind an "Iron Wall" , which the native population cannot breach." First published in Russian under the title O Zheleznoi Stene in Rassvyet, 4 November 1923.

From that day these words became the official and unspoken policy of the Zionist movement and later the state of Israel. Settlements were used from the beginning to create a Zionist foothold in Palestine.

Spent shells prove Israeli use of white phosphorus, Gaza doctors say

Remnants of an Israeli white phosphorus shell, identified by the marking on the outer casing — M825A1 — have been found in the village of Sheikh Ajilin in western Gaza.

Witnesses in Gaza said that the shell was fired on January 9 and was taken indoors as evidence. They recalled seeing thick smoke and smelling a strong odour in keeping with the garlic-like smell associated with white phosphorus.

Hebrew writing on the shell casing reads “exploding smoke” — the term the Israeli army uses for white phosphorus. Doctors who examined the shell said that it appeared to include phosphorus residue.

German police ban Israeli flags

German police officials in the cities of Duisburg and Düsseldorf, located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, prohibited pro-Israeli supporters from displaying Israeli flags.

Israel's Siege of Washington

Israel is using the two arsenals it is most comfortable with - military force to kill, injure, terrorize and displace thousands of Palestinian civilians, and the equivalent political overkill to bludgeon the American political establishment into total submission, notes Rami G. Khouri.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel seems to have reached the point where it is openly flaunting its control over the US Government (Olmert bragging about calling Bush to change the UN vote, for example).

But if there is one thing to learn from the history of persecutions and expulsions of the Jews, it is that they have one critical cultural flaw. As soon as they get into positions of superiority they cannot resist the urge to brag about it and rub everyone's faces in it. Inevitably, THAT is what triggers the backlash!

Gaza war rallied world against Israel

The Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, says today the world public opinion is against Israel due to its crimes in the Gaza Strip.

In an interview with Press TV he termed receiving sympathy from the world as "a big victory for Palestinians."

"This war also unveiled the true nature of the Israeli regime," he added.

President Ahmadinejad went on to say that it is obvious that Israel has failed in achieving its "goals in the war on Gaza" and the war mobilized the world nations to help the Palestinians.

The Iranian President added the war also proved that international bodies are incapable in resolving global security issues.

"The UN Security Council is a tool in the hands of some expansionist and aggressive powers."

President Ahmadinejad said any truce agreement between the warring sides must recognize the full rights of the Palestinian people.

Civilians sheltered at Gaza hospital before 'horror' attack

But as the frightened civilians took refuge in the facility, part of the hospital caught fire after an Israeli strike. The blaze was brought under control in the medical area but not in the administrative building.

The attack put about 100 patients and medical staff at risk, according to the international Red Cross, while a doctor inside said many of them were trapped.

"The Israelis are bombing and attacking all around the hospital. We can't get out. There's fire, and we're trapped inside. The water has been cut off," French doctor Regis Garrigue said.

Airstrike kills senior Hamas minister

Israel killed a senior Hamas leader in an air strike today after unleashing its heaviest shelling of Gaza neighbourhoods in what might be a final push against the Islamist group before a ceasefire.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel did the same thing in Lebanon in 2006, carpet bombing the place with cluster bombs just before the cease fire.

Meanwhile, I guess this assassination means that Israel's elected leaders are now fair game.

The army at the door…

The army shelled our hospital again, and we’re now evacuating everyone. We’re shifting base to a Red Cross building it seems. We’re taking people in beds, who can’t walk, and into dark streets where people were shot at earlier by snipers. 40-50 people were still sheltering in the basement, because they thought it safer than their own houses. By the time we left, bits of the ceiling were falling in on fire. Everyone is OK at the moment. There are explosions in the area still.
