G20 security threat uprooted

First it was trash cans, transit shelters and mailboxes. The latest casualty of G20 security concerns are saplings that line city sidewalks.

The trees could be ripped out of the ground by demonstrators "and then you've got a huge bar," said Constable Wendy Drummond, a spokeswoman for the Integrated Security Unit. Despite promises from summit organizers to replace the trees once foreign leaders leave town on June 27, the move bewilders tree lovers.

"The idea that tearing down something that's going to be living for 100 more years for a three-day meeting is insane," said Mark Calzavara of the Council of Canadians.

Jailed for a poster

About 200 kilometres from where world leaders will soon gather, two London political activists spent the night in city police cells over posters inviting people to Toronto to protest the G8 and G20 summits.

Darius Mirshahi, 25, and Andrew Cadotte, 19, flashed a peace sign and stood on the courthouse steps moments after their releases Wednesday afternoon and ripped open the police-issued, clear plastic bags containing their personal effects.

As the wind whipped up and papers flew, defence lawyer Dale Ives cautioned them: "Don't let that blow away guys or they'll charge you with littering."

Peaceful Protesters Attacked, Arrested While Cop-Car Arsonists Left Alone

An eyebrow-raising photograph of one of the anarchists who set fire to a Toronto police car during anti-G20 protests this past weekend shows him wearing Nike clothing, a potential indication that provocateurs dressed up as black-bloc “anarchists” were again employed by authorities to cause mayhem in order to justify a brutal police crackdown and crush free speech, as peaceful protesters were attacked and arrested while the anarchists who torched the cars were left alone.
The picture shows the two culprits who set fire to the police car congratulating each other and looking remarkably relaxed about potentially being caught by police considering what they had just done. One of the men is wearing Nike pants – the distinctive logo of the company can be seen above his left pocket.

G20 law gives police sweeping powers to arrest people

The province has secretly passed an unprecedented regulation that empowers police to arrest anyone near the G20 security zone who refuses to identify themselves or agree to a police search.

Obama Strategy for G-20 in Ottawa: Push Euro Down, Drive Renminbi Up, Attack Germany, and Keep Toxic Derivatives in Charge of the World Economy

With Obama’s letter to the G-20 countries released at the end of last week, the US strategy for the upcoming Ottawa summit is clear: Obama will attempt to sabotage the meeting with a two-pronged attack designed to knock China and Germany off balance, and to prevent any urgent measures from being discussed which might roll back the exorbitant proliferation of derivatives, impose a Tobin tax on speculators, or regulate and restrain the hedge fund hyenas whose activities are ravaging the globe.

G20 arrests protested

Activists plan to put up posters Thursday night in downtown London in solidarity with two men arrested for putting up G20 protest posters earlier this week.

The two men were arrested Tuesday night and held in police cells overnight. They face seven charges each of mischief for what police called “the negative message with content relating to the disruption and resistance to the G8 G20 on the posters.”

The posters were put up in the area of Dundas St. E., and around Egerton St. and Rectory St.. Environmentally friendly glue was used to put up the posters, but police said that gluing considered graffiti.

Canada's brewing 'insurgency'

The local and federal governments have resorted to significant measures: barricading the downtown core behind a massive galvanised perimeter fence, erecting checkpoints with x-rays, uprooting trees that police say could be used by demonstrators, and converting a sound stage into a massive temporary detention facility in preparation for mass arrests of protesters.
But with Canadian soldiers, snipers, commandos and police tactical units representing the sharp end of a security budget that is poised to top $1bn, the most significant threat to business as usual for the summit may turn out to be far-flung rural blockades enacted by Canada's long suffering native communities.

G-8 'fully believes' Israel will attack Iran, says Italy PM

World leaders "believe absolutely" that Israel may decide to take military action against Iran to prevent the latter from acquiring nuclear weapons, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said Saturday.
“Iran is not guaranteeing a peaceful production of nuclear power [so] the members of the G-8 are worried and believe absolutely that Israel will probably react preemptively,” Berlusconi told reporters following talks with other Group of Eight leaders north of Toronto.
In their communiqué, the leaders of the world's richest countries said they respected Iran's right to a civilian nuclear program, but noted that such a right must be accompanied by commitment to international law.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi: do you ever, possibly, tire of carrying Israel's water on the propaganda front?!?
Sir, the world understands that you are "grooming" the world for an Israeli-led, US-supported attack against Iran, which has played its nuclear energy program by the book, only to have the UN Security Council hit it with sanctions.
And by the way, when the G8 makes that statement about respecting
"...Iran's right to a civilian nuclear program, but noted that such a right must be accompanied by commitment to international law.", what about Israel?!?
Israel has nuclear weapons, but refuses to become a signatory to the NNPT, and will not allow inspections of its nuclear facilities.
Why is the G8 condemning Iran, which does not have nuclear weapons, but staying totally silent about Israel, which does have nuclear weapons?!?
Thinking people around the world are really having a difficult time wrapping their heads around this geopolitical schizophrenia.

The Global Political Awakening and the New World Order

The Technological Revolution and the Future of Freedom, Part 1
by Andrew Gavin Marshall at Globalresearch.ca.
There is a new and unique development in human history that is taking place around the world; it is unprecedented in reach and volume, and it is also the greatest threat to all global power structures: the ‘global political awakening.’ The term was coined by Zbigniew Brzezinski, and refers to the fact that, as Brzezinski wrote:
For the first time in history almost all of humanity is politically activated, politically conscious and politically interactive. Global activism is generating a surge in the quest for cultural respect and economic opportunity in a world scarred by memories of colonial or imperial domination.[1]

The Global Political Awakening and the New World Order

Brzezinski explains that this foreign policy, which has inflamed anti-Americanism around the world, specifically in the Muslim world, which was the principle target population of ‘terrorist’ rhetoric, has in fact further inflamed the ‘global political awakening’. Brzezinski writes that:
[T]he central challenge of our time is posed not by global terrorism, but rather by the intensifying turbulence caused by the phenomenon of global political awakening. That awakening is socially massive and politically radicalizing.[6]

Residential school stories move out of shadows

ST..JOHNS (CBC) - The head of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission on residential schools says survivors' stories will no longer be relegated to the sidelines of Canadian history.

Manitoba Justice Murray Sinclair says the commission will enable aboriginal people to tell what happened to them at the schools.

"We are going to be witnesses to something that has never taken place before in this country. We are going to see things, to hear things, and to feel things that have never been witnessed before," Sinclair told hundreds of people who gathered Wednesday morning at The Forks national historic site in Winnipeg.

"Sadly, the Indian residential schools story, generally speaking, has been relegated to the sidelines of Canadian history and treated as having little bearing upon today's society," he said. "There are a vast number of people in this country with little or no knowledge of Indian residential schools and the impact that those schools have had on aboriginal people and on Canada.

"It's high time we put this issue to bed."

CLOSING GUANTANAMO NO LONGER A PRIORITY

Stymied by political opposition and focused on competing priorities, the Obama administration has sidelined efforts to close the Guantánamo prison, making it unlikely that President Obama will fulfill his promise to close it before his term ends in 2013.

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 24% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-four percent (44%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -20 (see trends).

Forty-eight percent (48%) of Democrats Strongly Approve while 75% of Republicans Strongly Disapprove. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 12% Strongly Approve and 52% Strongly Disapprove.

Overall, 42% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president's performance. That’s the lowest level of approval yet recorded for this president. Fifty-seven percent (57%) now disapprove. Those are the lowest ratings yet recorded for this president. The president’s approval rating has held steady in the 46% - 47% range for six months and it remains to be seen whether this new low is merely statistical noise or the start of a lasting change.

It’s important to note, however, that the question did not in any way define media or differentiate between media outlets such as CNN and Fox News.

US opposes ICC bid to make 'aggression' a crime under international law

The United States under the Obama administration has developed an increasingly close working relationship with the International Criminal Court in The Hague. But that growing engagement with a controversial institution of international law was unable to prevent the ICC from expanding the scope of its work to include the murky crime of “aggression,” a move the US had vehemently opposed.

The U.S. wins the right to abduct innocent people with impunity

The Supreme Court today denied a petition of review from Maher Arar, the Canadian and Syrian citizen who was abducted by the U.S. Government at a stopover at JFK Airport when returning to Canada in 2002, held incommunicado for two weeks, and then rendered to Syria, where he spent the next 10 months being tortured, even though — as everyone acknowledges — he was guilty of absolutely nothing. Arar sued the U.S. Government for what was done to him, and last November, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the dismissal of his lawsuit on the ground that courts have no right to interfere in these decisions of the Executive Branch. That was the decision which the U.S. Supreme Court let stand today, ending Arar’s attempt to be compensated for what was done to him.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Actually, the reason we HAVE a US Supreme Court is to serve as a check and balance on both the executive and legislative branches and in point of fact the US Supreme Court has intervened on the decisions of the executive branch, case in point when the US Supreme Court blocked Harry Truman's nationalization of the Steel Industry to forestall a strike.

In Marbury v. Madison, the US Supreme Court affirmed the Constitution as the supreme law of the land leading Chief Justice John Marshall to establish the power of judicial review: the power of the Court not only to interpret the constitutionality of a law or statute but also to carry out the process and enforce its decision. Inasmuch as the President is the President only so long as he enforces United States law, review of his decisions is the proper purview of the United States Supreme Court.

License to Kill: Obama blurs the line between warfare and summary execution.

Nearly a decade after the September 11 attacks, we still have not settled the question of how to deal with terrorism suspects. Should they be in military or civilian custody? Should they receive trials, and if so what kind? After years of acrimonious debate, President Obama is offering a way to settle this argument once and for all: Why not just kill them?

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder just how soon Obama will be "importing" this tactic to right here in the US, to be used against anyone with a legitimate disagreement with the US Government's domestic or foreign policies?!?

And if you think for one moment such a thing couldn't happen here in the US, you haven't been paying attention.

Senators Lieberman and McCain, who collectively never met a section of the Constitution or Bill of Rights they didn't despise, have introduced "the Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention and Prosecution Act", which would empower the U.S. military to arrest anyone, U.S. citizen or otherwise, who is suspected of terrorist associations and detain them indefinitely, without right to a trial.

How's that for "gulag-think"?!? And what mechanism is there of this provision to prevent such people from simply "disappearing" in custody? NONE.

‘Dozens’ of US citizens on assassination list, White House adviser hints

When it was confirmed last winter by then-Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair that the Obama administration had authorized the assassination of American citizens working with terrorist groups overseas, it appeared that no more than three Americans were being targeted in this manner.
In an interview last week with the Washington Times, however, Deputy White House National Security Adviser for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism John O. Brennan suggested that the number might actually amount to "dozens."

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder just how soon extrajudicial assassinations will morph into a process targeting American citizens here at home who simply have a logical, reasoned difference

of opinion with that of the official policy of the US government.

How many Americans are targeted for assassination?

Nobody -- or at least not me -- disputes the right of the U.S. or any other country to kill someone on an actual battlefield during war without due process. That's just obvious, but that's not remotely what Brennan is talking about, and it's not remotely what this assassination program is about. Indeed, Brennan explicitly identified two indistinguishable groups of American citizens who "will face the full brunt of a U.S. response": (1) those "on the battlefield in Afghanistan or Iraq"; and (2) those "in a Yemen or in a Pakistan or in Somalia or another place." In other words, the entire world is a "battlefield" -- countries where there is a war and countries where there isn't -- and the President's "battlefield" powers, which are unlimited, extend everywhere.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Extrajudicial assassination has apparently been institutionalized by the US government, even against its own citizens.
The employment of extrajudicial assassination as a US domestic policy means that the whole notion of "due process" in this country has just been thrown under the proverbial bus.

New Bill Gives Obama ‘Kill Switch’ To Shut Down The Internet

The federal government would have “absolute power” to shut down the Internet under the terms of a new US Senate bill being pushed by Joe Lieberman, legislation which would hand President Obama a figurative “kill switch” to seize control of the world wide web in response to a Homeland Security directive.

Lieberman has been pushing for government regulation of the Internet for years under the guise of cybersecurity, but this new bill goes even further in handing emergency powers over to the feds which could be used to silence free speech under the pretext of a national emergency.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This has nothing to do with actual cybersecurity, and everything to do with making dead certain that the only information characterized as "news" by the corporate media is the only thing Us citizens will be able to read or hear about what is going on in the world.

This government is absolutely terrified of an independent blogosphere, which is getting the truth out there on many critical events taking place around the world and in this country, and wants total cyber control to prevent this from continuing to happening.

Obama Can Shut Down Internet For 4 Months Under New Emergency Powers

President Obama will be handed the power to shut down the Internet for at least four months without Congressional oversight if the Senate votes for the infamous Internet ‘kill switch’ bill, which was approved by a key Senate committee yesterday and now moves to the floor.
The Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, which is being pushed hard by Senator Joe Lieberman, would hand absolute power to the federal government to close down networks, and block incoming Internet traffic from certain countries under a declared national emergency.

Cybersecurity Measures Will Mandate Government “ID Tokens” To Use The Internet

Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones
Prison Planet.com
Monday, June 28, 2010
The move to shut down and regulate the Internet under a new government-controlled system has accelerated into high gear with the announcement that the government’s cybersecurity strategy revolves around issuing Internet users with ID “tokens” without which they will not be able to visit websites, the latest salvo against web freedom which, in combination with Senator Joe Lieberman’s ‘kill switch’ bill, will serve to eviscerate the free Internet as we know it.
Under the guise of “cybersecurity,” the government is moving to discredit and shut down the existing Internet infrastructure in the pursuit of a new, centralized, regulated world wide web.

Australian Government To Force Internet Users To Install State-Approved Software

The Australian government is set to intensify its war against Internet freedom by forcing web users to install state-approved anti-virus software. If they fail to do so, they will be denied an Internet connection, or if their computer is later infected, the user’s connection will be terminated.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And if everyone is using the exact same mandated software, then the hackers have an easier time infecting every machine because they know what the defenses are!

WikiLeaks Founder Has Massacre Video

After several days underground, the founder of the secretive website WikiLeaks has gone public to disclose that he is preparing to release a classified Pentagon video of a U.S. airstrike in Afghanistan last year that left as many as 140 civilians dead, most of them children and teenagers.

US ‘desperately’ trying to keep Wikileaks from publishing US communications about Arab states

Philip Shenon, a former New York Times reporter now writing for Tina Brown's The Daily Beast, alleged late Thursday that the Pentagon is "desperately" searching for the founder of the whistleblower website Wikileaks, out of concern he is about to publish classified US State Department cables.

Curiously, the piece cites an American diplomat as saying their chief concern is the leak of communications "prepared by diplomats and State Department officials throughout the Middle East, regarding the workings of Arab governments and their leaders."

Webmaster's Commentary:

The rumor is that these cables further document that Israel is controlling the US Government and its war machine.

Russia deploys hundreds of extra soldiers to Kyrgyz military base

Russia has deployed hundreds more soldiers to protect its military base in Kyrgyzstan, in the wake of fresh unrest that had left almost 100 people dead in the Central Asian country as of Sunday.

Three Ilyushin Il-96 military planes with a battalion of Russian paratroopers on board have landed at the base in Kant, the Interfax news agency reported. A Russian battalion typically ranges from 350 to 800 soldiers, depending on the situation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is an interesting development, in light of the fact that Russia had previously declared it was sending no troops to Kyrgyzstan to quell the rioting.

As reported last Saturday, 12 June, at

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/top/all/7050247.html

"Otunbayeva asked Russia early Saturday to send in troops, but the Kremlin said it would not meddle into what it described as Kyrgyzstan's internal conflict.

"It's a domestic conflict, and Russia now doesn't see conditions for taking part in its settlement," Kremlin spokeswoman Natalya Timakova said in Moscow. She added that Russia will discuss with other members of a security pact of ex-Soviet nations about the possibility of sending a joint peacekeeping force to Kyrgyzstan.

Timakova said Russia would send a plane to Kyrgyzstan to deliver humanitarian supplies and help evacuate victims of the violence."

One has to wonder why Russia would believe that its base in Kyrgyzstan would come under any kind of attack.

Russia plans second military base in Kyrgyzstan

The Kremlin tried and failed to win approval for the base in the south of the country last year but saw its chances evaporate when the man it was close to making a deal with, President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, was deposed in a coup earlier this year.
However, as the interim government that succeeded him struggles to maintain order after an outbreak of ethnic violence in the south of the country that left more than 200 people dead, the Kremlin has quietly revived the controversial plan.
The base, to be located in either Osh or Jalalabad, would extend Russia's geopolitical influence deep into Central Asia and bolster its position with both China and the United States.

Official: 30 killed in Kyrgyzstan village

Ethnic rioting spread Sunday in southern Kyrgyzstan, where at least 80 people have been killed and more than 1,000 wounded. Thousands of Uzbeks fled after their homes were torched by roving mobs of Kyrgyz men.

Fires destroyed much of Osh, the second-largest city in a Central Asian country that hosts U.S. and Russian military air bases. Stores were looted and the city was running out of food.

Gunfire rang out Sunday in another major southern city, Jalal-Abad, where the day before a rampaging mob burned a university, besieged a police station and seized an armored vehicle and other weapons from a local military unit. Thousands of Kyrgyz men brandishing sticks, metals bars and hunting rifles gathered at the city's horse racing track, shouting anti-Uzbek slogans while police stayed away.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That the current Interim President Roza Otunbayeva has begged Russia for troops underscores how utterly critical the situation has become for her government.

Kyrgyzstan Death toll grows as Kyrgyzstan ethnic violence escalates

Mobs of Kyrgyz men rampaged through southern Kyrgyzstan today, slaughtering ethnic Uzbeks and burning down houses in a third day of ethnic bloodshed.

The country's interim government granted its security forces shoot-to-kill powers and promised to send a volunteer force to the region – but the violence continued to rage, taking the death toll since Thursday night to more than 100.

The United States, Russia and the United Nations worked on humanitarian aid airlifts while neighboring Uzbekistan hastily set up camps to handle the flood of hungry, frightened refugees. Most were women, children and the elderly, many of whom Uzbekistan said had gunshot wounds.

The interim government had planned a referendum to approve a new constitution on June 27, but it now appears unlikely the vote will take place. New parliamentary elections are scheduled for October, but the violence appears aimed at undermining the interim government before then.

Baghdad to enclose city with 15ft wall to keep suicide bombers out

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/iraq/article7129217.ece

Baghdad is to resort to one of the oldest forms of defence by building a massive wall around the capital to keep out insurgents, The Times has learnt.

A series of recent suicide bombings has driven the governor of the Iraqi capital to propose the concrete barrier, which will be 15ft (4.5m) high and 70 miles (112km) long. Every man, beast and vehicle entering will be searched at one of only eight gates along the main highways.

Baghdad, roughly the same size as London and with approximately five million inhabitants, will face severe disruption as a result. Freedom of movement will be limited and workers and visitors alike will probably have to wait for at least an hour to enter. Once inside, though, it is hoped they will be much safer. Shatha al-Obeidi, an aide to Salah Abdul Razzaq, the governor, said: “We want to stop the terrorist from sneaking in. With the wall it will be much easier.”

Building work is expected to take about a year.

Study: Occupied Baghdad is least livable city on planet

http://www.uruknet.de/?p=m66421&hd=&size=1&l=e

The Iraq war is still being touted by Washington and the Pentagon as a war for progress and stability in the region. A study released May 26, however, reveals a radically different reality.

The Mercer Quality of Living survey ranked Baghdad last in a list of "most livable cities." The study took into account political, economic, ecological, social and cultural factors.

The result is not surprising considering the devastation brought on by the U.S.-led invasion. Sewage treatment plants, factories, schools, hospitals, and museums have been destroyed. As a result, Iraqi citizens now have scarce access to water and electricity.

Witness: Secret Iraq prison for women and children

http://uruknet.com/?p=m66372&hd=&size=1&l=e

The witness, who is known to be credible, says he risked speaking to a Western publication because he and some colleagues were sickened by seeing women and children detained. He insisted on anonymity.

In some cases, the women were being interrogated as possible suspects, but in others they were being used to try to extract confessions from their husbands. Using threats against women to elicit confessions from male relatives is a practice well-documented by rights groups.

"Four days ago when one of the men wouldn't confess they said, 'Bring in his wife.' They put her in a separate room nearby and beat her so he could hear her screaming," says the witness. "They went back to the man and said, 'We will rape her if you don't confess.' "

Pakistan:

Pakistan’s spy agency working with Taliban, study says

Pakistan's ISI intelligence agency provides funding, training and sanctuary to the Taliban in Afghanistan, according to a study which claimed to have the strongest evidence yet of their links.

However the report for the London School of Economics (LSE) was on Sunday dismissed by the Pakistani military as "malicious and baseless".

The LSE study, based on interviews with nine Taliban field commanders in Afghanistan between February and May this year, claims their relationship goes far beyond what is currently known.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to the Pakistani military and government leaders: some in the corridors of power at the White House and Pentagon have long not viewed Pakistan as a geopolitical friend, but rather as an enemy.

Many in power in the US would like nothing better than a justification for a massive attack against Pakistan (with which to "neutralize" its current leadership and control its nuclear arsenal), and this report - whether true or not - may well be the "ammunition" they will use to make that move.

Iran:

It will be the next round of U.S. sanctions that really hurts Iran

Both Israel and the United States realize that the new sanctions won't bring Iran to its knees; the key to that is in complementary sanctions, imposed by the U.S. and like-minded nations.

Turkey is changing the rules of the regional game.

The vote against sanctions sets up Ankara as an ally of the radical axis led by Iran, and Turkey is also moving toward disputing Israel's very legitimacy, its right to self-defense and even its right to exist.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, the drumbeat for war against Iran continues, in spite of UN Security Council sanctions having been passed, coupled with the demonization of Turkey.

Unfortunately, Russia and China, having acquiesced to signing on to the sanctions, didn't take into account Israel's collective hubristic paranoia, particularly at the highest levels of its government.

These "complementary sanctions" are only a prelude to the military confrontation against Iran, which will almost inevitably follow.

There is no evidence of an imminent attack, but he connects a number of recent events and the presence of American soldiers to warn that oil prices might soar -- with or without a pre-emptive strike aimed at stopping Iran’s nuclear power ambitions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To make the statement that "...There is no evidence of an imminent attack..." against Iran is an outright lie.
The very facts in this article demonstrate that there is every probability that the US and Israel expect to start some kind of military assault on Iran, and most likely, very soon.

USS Carrier Harry Truman Now Officially Just Off Iran, As Israel Allegedly Plotting An Imminent Tehran Raid

As for the catalyst the two carriers may be anticipating, we provide the following update from the Gulf Daily News where we read that Israel may be on the verge of an attack of Iran, with an incursion originating from military bases in Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It's a given that the US will allow Israeli warplanes to attack Iran through Iraq, even though that places our kids at risk, and I would not rule out pre-positioned Israeli aircraft striking from US bases in Afghanistan.

US military chief in Israel for top-level talks

The top US military officer, Admiral Mike Mullen, arrived in Tel Aviv on Sunday for talks with Israeli military and defence officials, both sides said.
"This is a very short visit -- he will meet with Defence Minister (Ehud) Barak and with (Chief of Staff) Gaby Ashkenazi and a few others from the defence establishment," a US embassy spokesman told AFP.
Mullen, who is Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was expected to meet Barak at around midday, the Israeli defence ministry said without giving further details.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ehud Barak was just in Washington DC last weekend for a stealth meeting (i.e., received virtually no coverage in US corporate media) with Sec Def Gates, Admiral Mike Mullen, and Secretary of State Clinton.
The increased flurry of high-level consultations, coupled with the almost virtual corporate medial blackout in the US, may well signal that the attack against Iran is on; it's only a question of when, and how to "sell" such an attack to the American people.

OPEC Warns War With Iran Would Cause 'Unlimited' Oil Price Hike

Still, OPEC's secretary general acknowledged that dangers to steady supply exist. Addressing one — the threat of a U.S. or Israeli attack on Iran because of its nuclear defiance — he warned that his organization was unprepared — and unable — to make up for resulting oil shortfalls.
"It is impossible to replace the production of Iran," OPEC's No. 2 producer, Abdalla Salem El-Badri told reporters at the presentation of the organization's long term oil market outlook. “The prices would go unlimited ... I can’t give you a number.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Yes, I had hoped that the oil under Deepwater Horizon would have met all our needs while we kill all you Arabs, but that didn't work out. And yes, I fully understand that Israel's attack on Iran will mean great hardships for the American people, endless suffering, starvation, death, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make for Israel! Anybody doesn't like it, remember what Israel did to that kid from New York. If I didn't stick up for him, I sure as hell won't stick up for you losers!" -- Official White Horse Souse.

US to build troop training centre in Tajikistan: envoy

The United States plans to build a facility for training local troops in the ex-Soviet Central Asian state of Tajikistan, the US ambassador said here Friday.
"The plan... is almost 10 million dollars to build this national training centre for the Tajik armed forces," Ken Gross told journalists at a briefing in the capital, Dushanbe.

Great: we're ringing in Russia with military bases in Central Asia, while the infrastructure here at home is collapsing!

Clinton In Azerbaijan: Testing Waters For Attack On Iran

Russian expert Alexei Vlasov thinks this whole "military operation on Iran" is nothing more, than a rumor.
"I have big doubts that Azerbaijani government, which always thinks first, and acts second, will allow such air strike from its territory. This kind of move goes against the diplomacy of Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev. The upcoming Clinton visit to Baku is a way to get Azerbaijan to answer one question - how would it behave, if a strike on Iran will happen? I think, Ilham Aliyev will find a way to maintain a much needed balance." said Vlasov.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would really like to believe that Alexei Vlasov is correct in his assessment here.
Unfortunately, however, a series of publicly noted military moves and high-level diplomatic meetings between the US and Israel do not augur well for any hope of a peaceful solution to the non-existent problem of Iran's alleged weapons program.
That Clinton is going to Baku for meetings is just another manifestation of the quickening of the drumbeats toward this war.
As reported today in:
http://en.apa.az/news.php?id=125183
" Nagorno Karabakh conflict will be the issue of primary importance during U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s visit to the South Caucasus countries."
"Note that Clinton is expected to visit the region on July 1-5."
Clinton will be in the region right before Israel's Prime Minister will be in Washington on 6 July.
Although the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict will be the "good reason" for her trip, the "real reason" is most likely the coming military assault on Iran, and to determine just what Azerbaijan's government can be counted upon to do or not do when that happens.
Take a good look at a map to see why this is so critical for the US strategy against Iran.

Report: US warships stationed off Iranian coast

As unconfirmed reports of an imminent Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear facilities pick up steam in the Middle Eastern media, a US-based strategic intelligence company has released a chart showing US naval carriers massing near Iranian waters.
The chart, published by Stratfor and obtained by the Zero Hedge financial blog, shows that over the last few weeks a naval carrier -- the USS Harry S Truman -- has been positioned in the north Indian Ocean, not far from the Strait of Hormuz, which leads into the Persian Gulf. The carrier joins the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, which was already located in the area. The chart is dated June 23, 2010.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If these reports are true, expect that there will be some massive strike against Iran in the not so distant future.
But one has to wonder; with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan going so catastrophically badly, how will the US be able to "sell" yet another war against yet another of Israel's "existential enemies" to the American people?!?

Defiant Iran rejects sanctions, could revise IAEA ties

Iran remained defiant on Thursday in rejecting UN sanctions over its uranium enrichment and said it could review ties with the UN atomic body, as world powers stressed the door was still open for dialogue.

The visibly angry Iranians further expressed defiance by warning Tehran could reduce its ties with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

"The majlis (parliament)... will adopt on Sunday a top priority bill which talks of decreasing ties with the IAEA," Esmaeel Kosari, a member of its committee on national security and foreign policy, told Fars news agency.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Iranian government is not "defiant"; it is justifiably angry, for having played by the IAEA rules, and still gotten slapped with sanctions, as though they had not.

They have every reason, in light of the fact that the IAEA has found no nuclear material missing, and no enrichment done beyond that necessary to fuel a power plant, to be very strongly considering pulling out of the IAEA program, as they have received utterly no real benefit from it.

It will be interesting to see what the Iranian Parliament does on this on Sunday.

Obama to meet Saudi King Abdullah at White House

President Barack Obama welcomes Saudi King Abdullah to the White House on Tuesday, as he seeks to reinvigorate his Middle East peace drive and crank up pressure on Iran over its nuclear program.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: Obama understands that Israel is not interested in peace; it only wants territory, by any means necessary, including annexation of Jerusalem and the West Bank, coupled forced expulsion of Palestinians into stateless refugee status, and Obama is impotent to stop this.
King Abdullah understands this.
This meeting with King Abdullah is first about what concessions can be wrung out of Saudi Arabia in advance of a US/Israeli attack against Iran.
It is secondly about what weapons systems the US is willing to sell Saudi Arabia in exchange for their acquiescence on moving forward with the strike (as long as Israel approves of such a weapons sale).

Israel and US allegedly preparing military strike on Iran

Reports have surfaced in the Middle East claiming Israel and the US are making military preparations for a possible attack on Iran.

U.N.'s Ban urges new talks on Iran nuclear program

The U.N. chief on Monday called for more talks on Iran's atomic program, saying new sanctions against Tehran have not shut the door to a diplomatic resolution of its nuclear standoff with the West.
"Even with the Security Council's resolution adopted on other sanctions, the door is still open for a negotiated settlement," Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told reporters.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon; in the words of my late grandmother, the horse is already out of the barn on this one, and the time to have called for more negotiations was before, not after, the Security Council passed the sanction resolutions against Iran.
You cannot bring Israel to see reason on this issue (and in fact, the UN has almost never, in Israel's existence, been able to get Israel to comply with any UN resolutions), and it appears that the die is cast here.
You understand that there have been high level talks between Israel's defense minister Ehud Barack, the US's admiral Mike Mullen, and Secretary of State Clinton in a stealth visit a couple of weeks ago; you have Russian Foreign Minister in Jerusalem today, begging for new IAEA-US talks regarding Iran; you have Admiral Mullen in Tel Aviv for talks ahead of his going to Afghanistan; you have King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia in Washington today; you have Secretary of State Clinton in Baku, Azerbaijan this weekend; and you have Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in Washington DC for talks next Tuesday.
Connect the dots: The timing, and increase in tempo of these meetings, is not an accident.
You also understand has been a large US military naval deployment (which included an Israeli vessel) to the Persian Gulf, and there are 3 Dolphin-Class Israeli nuclear-armed subs in the Persian Gulf, already pre-positioned ahead of any military conflict.
Secretary-General, you and your colleagues at the UN are about to become irrelevant in terms of stopping a regional war which
could very well go global; the UN has been an abysmal failure in preventing this conflict, and you know it.
If the United Nations cannot control Israel, a country half the size of New Jersey, they are incompetent to manage the entire world.

Are U.S. Warships Gearing Up for a Confrontation With an Iranian Aid Flotilla to Gaza?

The United States Navy is sending an aircraft carrier and nearly a dozen other warships through the Suez Canal and into the Red Sea, according to the British Arabic Language newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi, which reported that the ships carry infantry troops, armored vehicles, and ammunition.

Webmaster's Commentary:

You do not take armored vehicles to board an aid ship. That fleet is on its way to invade Iran.

Iran sanctions bill unveiled by US lawmakers

Top US lawmakers crafting Iran sanctions legislation announced Monday they had reached a deal on a series of punitive measures aimed at piling pressure on Tehran over its suspect nuclear program.
Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Howard Berman said they were circulating their draft bill to colleagues, and sources said the US Congress could approve the measure as early as this week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Notice the timing of the proposed passage of this bill; right after Israeli Defence Minister Barak has left Washington on Saturday, and as 11 US Navy vessels are headed into the Persian Gulf, accompanied by one Israeli corvette.
Most likely, any one of the stipulations of this legislation could well prove the "trigger" to allegedly justify an attack against Iran.
Iran has done absolutely nothing to deserve being attacked; it only has the horrendous geopolitical bad luck of being characterized as an alleged "existential enemy" of Israel, and for US leadership, that is, apparently enough to justify an attack against it.

CIA's Panetta: Iran has enough uranium for 2 bombs

CIA Director Leon Panetta says Iran probably has enough low-enriched uranium for two nuclear weapons, but that it likely would take two years to build the bombs.
Panetta also says he is doubtful that recent U.N. penalties will put an end to Iran's nuclear ambitions.
He says the penalties could help to weaken Tehran's government by creating serious economic problems. But he adds, "Will it deter them from their ambitions with regards to nuclear capability? Probably not."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to CIA Director Leon Panetta: sir, we know that these statements are intended to "sell" the American public on a military confrontation with Iran, and that confrontation will probably happen very soon. But your problem is, you have no buyers, because Americans understand the following
facts regarding Iran's nuclear energy program:

1. As a signatory to the NNPT, Iran is perfectly within its rights to develop nuclear energy for peaceful means.
2. With Russia's help, Iran is building a nuclear power plant in Bushehr.
3. As a signatory to the IAEA (at least before the UN slapped sanctions on Iran for playing by the rules), Iran has had its nuclear facilities inspected consistently.
4. To date, no nuclear materials have reported to have gone missing, nor has the uranium been enriched to the degree necessary for creating a weapon. The Iranians have been enriching uranium to 20% for medical isotopes only.
5. Israel has nuclear weapons, and refuses to sign the NNPT, and therefore refuses any inspections of its nuclear facilities. Documents recently published in the British press not only confirm Israel's possession of nuclear weapons, but also their attempted sale of same to other countries, such as apartheid South Africa.
6. Under the Symington Amendment, the US is forbidden from giving any aid to any country which has nuclear weapons but refuses to sign the NNPT. Therefore, the 3 billion dollars given annually to Israel is illegal under standing US law.
Mr. Panetta, I am just an ordinary private citizen with absolutely zero love or affection for any theocratic government, including the current government in Iran.
However, that having been said, Iran has done absolutely nothing to deserve this impending military strike against it. It hasn't invaded another country in over two centuries.
It is simply a country suffering from the very bad luck of having been proclaimed by Israel an "existential threat" to Israel's existence, which must be "neutralized" by a US military strike.

Americans know
that Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak was in Washington last weekend to meet with Admiral Mullen, Secretary of State Clinton, and Secretary of Defense Gates.
Americans know that Admiral Mullen was in Tel Aviv for high level meetings this weekend.
Americans know that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is scheduled for meetings with President Obama on 6 July.
Americans know that a large contingent of US military vessels transited the Suez Canal on the way to the Persian Gulf a little a week ago, accompanied by one Israeli vessel, and that this was anything but a normal rotation of troops and resources.
Americans know that 3 Israeli Dolphin-class subs which are nuclear armed are in the Gulf right now as I type this.
And finally, Mr. Panetta, Americans know that a war against Iran is an horrifically bad idea, and that it may well be waged just because the Obama administration desperately needs a "mother of all distractions" away from how badly its policies, both foreign and domestic, have impacted the American people.

Israel selling weapons to Azerbaijan fuels possibility of new war

A dangerous pattern is emerging in the Caucasus with new reports that Israel is continuing to sell advanced military armaments to Azerbaijan, costing hundreds of millions of dollars, said Jirair Haratunian, former Chairman of the Armenian Assembly of America Board of Directors, in a column entitled "Dangerous Endorsement: More Israeli Military Arms sold to Azeris as Jewish lobby backs Azerbaijan," the Assembly told PanARMENIAN.Net.
The commentary continues, “These military sales are an incendiary fuse in a volatile South Caucasus where a startled world just witnessed a short bloody war between Russia and Georgia and where Moscow’s recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia has altered the geopolitical landscape in the region, perhaps permanently.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember that in order to limit Russia's ability to supply Iran during the coming invasion, there have to be wars going on in Afghani8stan and Georgie to block the land routes.

Reports: IAF Landed at Saudi Base, US Troops near Iran Border

The Israeli Air Force recently unloaded military equipment at a Saudi Arabia base, a semi-official Iranian news agency claimed Wednesday, while a large American force has massed in Azerbaijan, which is on the northwest border of Iran.
Both reports follow by less than a week the Pentagon’s confirmation that an unusually large American fleet sailed through the Suez Canal Saturday. Several reports stated that an Israeli ship joined the armada.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If these reports are true, it means that an attack against Iran is definitely in the cards very soon.
And it may well be.
As reported on Monday, 21 June, 2010 at:
http://www.forbes.com/2010/06/21/iran-nuclear-israel-war-opinions-reza-kahlili.html
"Both Israel and the U.S. have positioned nuclear-armed submarines in the region. Israel has conducted multiple tests on its missile defense systems to protect its citizens once war breaks out. U.S. and Israeli Special Forces have been deployed inside Iran to investigate potential targets and gauge the willingness of Iranians to overthrow the current regime. Russia--up to now a key backer of the regime--recently announced a freeze in sales of its S-300 missiles to Iran. Vladimir Putin confirmed this himself last week."
"Iran, for its part, is also preparing for an all-out war in the Middle East. Before even a vote was cast at the U.N. on recent sanctions, Iranian leaders had ordered the Guards to build up. Reinforcement troops have been dispatched to the Iraqi and Afghanistan borders."
The Israeli government desperately needs the distraction from the flotilla massacre, and the US government desperately needs the distraction from the unfolding catastrophe playing out in the Gulf of Mexico and beyond.

Attack On Iran Imminent, Warns Fidel Castro

As I was writing every one of my previous Reflections, and a catastrophe was quickly zeroing in on humanity, my major concern was to fulfill the primary duty to inform our people.
Today, I feel more relax than 26 days ago. As the situation evolves, I can reiterate and expand on the information to the national and international public.
Obama has committed to attend the quarterfinals match on July 2, if his country’s team makes it to that stage. He supposedly knows better than anyone that the quarterfinals will not be contested because very serious developments will take place before that; or at least he should know.

Massive arms deals between Russia and "Israel"

The paper quoted a spokesman for "Doron Sacelik" "Israeli" as saying: The company is involved in business deals of this kind with Russia, while refusing to discuss the details which such deals.
The paper disclosed that it is likely that Russia will buy weapons from companies, "Israel" and several other companies worth 12 billion dollars over the next five years.

Remorseless Times Square car bomber Faisal Shahzad warns: 'We will be attacking the U.S.'

A self-proclaimed "Muslim soldier" who bungled a plot to bomb Times Square promised Monday that others will succeed where he failed.
A remorseless Faisal Shahzad pleaded guilty to the frightening scheme to blow up the Crossroads of the World on a busy Saturday night, when it was packed with New Yorkers and tourists.
"It's a war," Shahzad, 30, said in a hateful screed to Manhattan Federal Judge Miriam Cedarbaum.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This so reeks of "setup", particularly in light of the fact that the bomb was so badly fabricated that it couldn't have possibly detonated. For one thing, he bought the wrong type of fertilizer, leading to his nickname the "Bandini bomber".
One has to wonder if the timing of this hearing was engineered to scare Americans right in advance of some other huge "false flag" event, perhaps on or around some very significantly American holiday, like the 4th of July. Like his predecessors the shoe bomber and the crotch bomber, the Bandini bomber is a staged propaganda piece, to make sure the public blames the correct designated target when the big bang to launch the invasion of Iran happens! The PR runup we are seeing today mirrors almost exactly the one seen in August of 2001.

Bushbama Slams ‘Obsession’ With Ending War in Afghanistan

Speaking today in the wake of the G20 Summit, President Barack Obama criticized what he called “a lot of obsession” about ending the war in Afghanistan and withdrawing some 100,000 American troops from the nation.

"Afghan war is lost and US government has to face it."

Termination Notice: McChrystal Sideshow Masks Murderous Reality

Some people seem to think that the question of which uniformed goober is in charge of the imperial bloodbath in Afghanistan is a vitally important issue, worthy of endless exegesis. It is not. It is a meaningless sideshow. What does matter, vitally, deeply, urgently, is the imperial bloodbath itself, and the fact that it will go on, and on, no matter what Barack Obama does or doesn't do about Stanley McChrystal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The real issues here are as follows:
1. The US and NATO are losing what was from the get-go an unwinnable war by any military standards.
2. We are on the absolutely wrong side of history here, and do not have the moral high ground in any way.
3. Our young men and women in military are being put in harm's way daily in a war, ultimately, for private profit in terms of oil, drugs, and minerals.

4. This immoral and illegal war has absolutely nothing to do with the security of the American people, and this administration - and by now, the American people- understand this clearly.

Militarism and Democracy: the Implications of the McChrystal Affair

What such commentaries begin to reveal is the emergence in the United States of a distinct military caste, virulently hostile to democracy, civilian control and any form of popular opposition to American imperialism.
The firing of McChrystal and his replacement by Petraeus represents, not a blow against this trend, but the means by which Obama and the Democratic Party adapt themselves to the demands of the military brass. McChrystal’s only crime—his “error in judgment”, in Obama’s parlance—was to express in too blunt and unguarded a fashion the sentiments of broad sections of the US officer corps.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is apparent, when you look at Pentagon budget requests, that the US is being prepared for wars without end for the foreseeable future.

Obama Disavows July 2011 Afghan Drawdown Date

The date was little but an excuse to convince opponents of the surge to withhold judgement on the war at any rate, but its new role as the “beginning of a transition phase” has downgraded it to complete irrelevance, as officials have been claiming for years that they have been encouraging the Afghan government to take “more and more responsibility” to no real effect.

McChrystal Faces "Iraq 2006 Moment" in Coming Months

On Thursday, McChrystal's message that his strategy will weaken the Taliban in its heartland took its worst beating thus far, when he admitted that the planned offensive in Kandahar City and surrounding districts is being delayed until September at the earliest, because it does not have the support of the Kandahar population and leadership.

Equally damaging to the credibility of McChrystal's strategy was the Washington Post report published Thursday documenting in depth the failure of February's offensive in Marja.

The basic theme underlined in both stories - that the Afghan population in the Taliban heartland is not cooperating with U.S. and NATO forces - is likely to be repeated over and over again in media coverage in the coming months.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reality here is that this obscenely immoral was instituted to achieve two outcomes: the "pacification" of the Afghan people to enable the installation of the oil pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil, and the control of the drug trade.

While the second objective has been brilliantly achieved to the point of Russia complaining bitterly about cheap Afghan heroin flooding their country and addicting their kids (when you control the drug flow, you control where the drugs go), that second outcome is still... an "oil pipeline dream", no closer to reality than when the invasion of Afghanistan began almost 9 years ago.

The Afghani people, rightly, see the US and NATO as occupying forces, and because of the country's brutal history, Afghans have developed a well-earned xenophobia against foreigners.

The Afghan people don't "hate us because we are free'; they hate us because, in the name control of oil and opium, we have invaded and occupied their country, killed their children, dads, wives, cousins, and friends, and continue to wreak havoc upon an already destroyed infrastructure.

Now; as pathologically corrupt as our US/NATO puppet in Kabul may be, Karzai is no idiot.

He understands very clearly that the only way "out" of the current bloodshed and is through a complete rapprochement with the Taliban. The Taliban wants US and NATO forces out, NOW.

However, the situation on the ground in Afghanistan is still way too unstable to allow the installation of those pipelines to control Eurasian oil, which puts the US right back to where it was in August of 2001, at which point the Bush administration was negotiating with the Taliban for the oil pipeline routes, but considered the asking price "too high."

With all the blood and money spent on a militarily unwinnable war, the American people have had quite enough, thank you very much. We need to pack up now, declare victory, and negotiate with whatever government is left standing in Kabul regarding the oil pipeline routes.

Afghan wedding party attack blamed on Taliban was actually a US strike

Resurgent Taliban threaten U.S. win in Marja

Afghanistan - Residents of this onetime Taliban sanctuary see signs that the insurgents have regained momentum in recent weeks, despite early claims of success by U.S. Marines. The longer-than-expected effort to secure Marja is prompting alarm among top American commanders that they will not be able to change the course of the war in the time President Obama has given them.

Firefights between insurgents and security forces occur daily, resulting in more Marine fatalities and casualties over the past month than in the first month of the operation, which began in mid-February.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Bottom line: the US is not winning, and cannot win a military victory here.

We have never had, nor ever will have, enough troops on the ground to win this, probably not even if Obama reinstitutes a draft, (which is something against which I wouldn't bet at this point.)

The US and NATO should declare victory, withdraw, and negotiate with whatever government is left standing for the rights to the oil pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil.

Of course, that would be logical; and logic and US foreign policy have not had any real long-standing relationship for some time now.

General: Kandahar operation will take longer

The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan said Thursday that major parts of the military operation to secure Kandahar, the birthplace of the Taliban movement, would be pushed back because it was taking longer than expected to win local support.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: the Afghanis don't want the US/NATO troops there, period, end of discussion.

They do not hate us "because we are free"; they hate us because we have installed a completely corrupt puppet government in place which has absolutely no consideration for the Afghan people, and are consistently and indiscriminately killing their brothers, sisters, kids, moms, and friends.

This can only lead to further radicalization, and further destabilization of the country. If that is the outcome that the US and NATO want, one has to say, "mission accomplished!"

Afghan forces must show progress 'within five years': G8

Afghan government forces must make concrete progress towards assuming more responsibility for the security of their country "within five years", the G8 group of nations said Saturday.
A summit statement from the leaders of the world's major industrialized nations called on Kabul to "expand the capacity of the Afghan National Security Forces to assume increasing responsibility for security within five years."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, but have the members of the G8 collectively gone totally barking mad, to issue this statement?!?
If the US and NATO haven't been able to accomplish these outcomes nearly 9 years on in this occupation, how the sam hill can you possibly believe that they can be achieved in another 5 years?!?

Afghan president 'has lost faith in US ability to defeat Taliban'

President Hamid Karzai has lost faith in the US strategy in Afghanistan and is increasingly looking to Pakistan to end the insurgency, according to those close to Afghanistan's former head of intelligence services.

Amrullah Saleh, who resigned last weekend, believes the president lost confidence some time ago in the ability of Nato forces to defeat the Taliban.

Webmaster's Commentary:

After nearly nine years and still no decisive victory and/or stabilization of Afghanistan, who can blame Karzai if he's actually thinking this right now?!?

Obama has allowed Afghanistan to become his very own personal Viet Nam, a reprehensible and tragic consequence of some very bad choices on his part, upon which history will judge him most harshly.

We should leave the country, declare victory, and negotiate with whatever government is left standing regarding the rights to the oil pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil.

Is the Obama Administration Planning to Use Bagram Like Gitmo?

The Obama administration is reportedly considering a plan to use Bagram prison in Afghanistan as a Guantánamo-style prison to hold and interrogate "terrorism suspects" captured in countries other than Afghanistan, including Somalia, Yemen and Pakistan. Citing unnamed US officials, the Los Angeles Times reports that the United States is exploring a plan to "carve out a section of the prison for non-Afghan detainees who would remain under U.S. custody" even after Bagram is officially handed over to Afghan control, which the White House agreed to do last month.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to the Bushbama Administration; US laws are firmly in place for these kinds of trials here in the US.

Extradite these men, try them in a court of law, and either the jury will convict, or not convict. It is just that simple.

The US institutionalization of torture as an element of interrogation is immoral, illegal, and a disgrace to this country and everything it is supposed to stand for, period, end of discussion.

Secret Prisons and Torture to Continue under Obama

According to a Los Angeles Times report, a senior U.S. official stated the Obama administration wants to detain and interrogate non-Afghan terrorism suspects captured in countries outside Afghanistan in a section of the Bagram prison, even after it turns the prison over to Afghan "control."

This is consistent with Obama’s record of continuing and expanding the national security state begun by the Bush regime. Bagram is one of the pre-eminent hellhole prisons currently run by the U.S. military. In many respects it is even worse than Gitmo, with torture and death being the result for many prisoners detained there.

As reported at on 21 May 2009 at:

Obama: 'We Do Not Torture'
Speaking today at the National Archives, President Obama said that the United States “went off course” in fighting terrorism during the Bush administration and that his new policies will “better protect” the country. Waterboarding and other harsh techniques, Obama argued, "did not advance our war and counter-terrorism efforts–they undermined them." He also defended his decision to close Guantanamo Bay. Rather than keep us safer, the prison at Guantanamo has weakened American national security," Obama said. "It is a rallying cry for our enemies. It sets back the willingness of our allies to work with us in fighting an enemy that operates in scores of countries. By any measure, the costs of keeping it open far exceed the complications involved in closing it.”

Looks like that was just another grand declaration on Bushbama's part that's been flushed down the toilet with the expansion of US overseen indefinite detention and torture at Bagram.

The War on Afghanistan is a Profit driven "Resource War".

The war on Afghanistan is a profit driven "resource war".

Under US and allied occupation, this mineral wealth is slated to be plundered, once the country has been pacified, by a handful of multinational mining conglomerates. According to Olga Borisova, writing in the months following the October 2001 invasion, the US-led "war on terrorism [will be transformed] into a colonial policy of influencing a fabulously wealthy country." (Borisova, op cit).

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, that's what our kids are fighting, getting maimed, and dying for in Afghanistan: the potential profits to be realized from oil, minerals, and drugs.

I wish the people in Congress, the White House and the Pentagon had the "male attributes" to tell every single grieving friend and family members of those killed or maimed in this war the truth: they don't, of course.

Afghanistan's 'Vast Riches Of Minerals' Highlighted By Pentagon

"The United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, far beyond any previously known reserves and enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself, according to senior American government officials," the New York Times' James Risen reported on Monday.

Opponents of the war have questioned whether Monday's Times story is the Pentagon's latest attempt to persuade an increasingly frustrated American public that Afghanistan is worth the costs in blood and treasure.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I want to see the actual hard science here.

But if this is true (and that's one big if), these discoveries mean that the US and NATO will never leave Afghanistan, no matter how many soldiers are maimed for life or killed, again, in the pursuit of private profit.

A $1 trillion dollar discovery in Afghanistan

U.S. Identifies Vast Riches of Minerals in Afghanistan

The United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, far beyond any previously known reserves and enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself, according to senior American government officials.

Discovery’ of Afghan riches a pro-war PR scam?

The ‘discovery’ of Afghanistan’s minerals will sound pretty silly to old timers,” a "retired former senior US official" tells Politico's Laura Rosen. “When I was living in Kabul in the early 1970’s the [US government], the Russians, the World Bank, the UN and others were all highly focused on the wide range of Afghan mineral deposits. Cheap ways of moving the ore to ocean ports has always been the limiting factor.”

So why is this news now? To many, the story's timing suggests a Pentagon public relations campaign designed to extend public support for the war with the hope that, in time, Afghanistan may be able to raise itself out of abject poverty.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This smells like a campaign to try to give the US public a reason to believe that prolonging this war has any kind of an upside for the US, which it does not.

At the end of the day, the money will be going to private corporations with Afghans seeing precious little of it, while more of our troops come home maimed for life, or in body bags, for perhaps years to come.

"The War is Worth Waging": Afghanistan's Vast Reserves of Minerals and Natural Gas

The 2001 bombing and invasion of Afghanistan has been presented to World public opinion as a "Just War", a war directed against the Taliban and Al Qaeda, a war to eliminate "Islamic terrorism" and instate Western style democracy.

The economic dimensions of the "Global War on Terrorism" (GWOT) are rarely mentioned. The post 9/11 "counter-terrorism campaign" has served to obfuscate the real objectives of the US-NATO war.

The war on Afghanistan is part of a profit driven agenda: a war of economic conquest and plunder, "a resource war".

Webmaster's Commentary:

I wonder where I heard that before?

Patience is urged in Afghanistan

Senior Pentagon officials urged patience Wednesday as U.S. troops begin operations to stabilize the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, and Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of U.S. forces in the Mideast, returned to Capitol Hill to offer a full-throated endorsement of President Obama's order to pull out of Afghanistan starting next summer

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to Admiral Mullen and President Obama: the American people have absolutely lost their patience this immoral and illegal war.

We have collectively experienced that moment of clarity where we understand fully that the US is not at all involved in an alleged "war on terror"; we are involved in a war against people who are either cursed by living over resources the US government considers theirs, or on transit routes to and from resources the US government considers theirs, as is the case in Afghanistan.

I would like to point out that, nearly 9 years on, the US military is no closer to "pacifying" Afghanistan to the point where the oil pipelines can be installed with which to control Eurasian oil than we were at the beginning of the process.

Karzai is talking reconciliation with the Taliban as the only way forward here, and (thug that he is) he has the intelligence to understand that. The Taliban want the US and NATO out of Afghanistan immediately.

This means that the US and NATO will most likely need to withdraw from Afghanistan far sooner than they want to; and for all the blood and money spent, the US is no closer to the installation of those pipelines than was the Bush administration in August of 2001, when it was negotiating with the Taliban for the pipeline rights.

Our brave young men and women who have fighting, getting maimed for life, and dying in Afghanistan, have not been fighting for the security of the United States: they have been fighting, getting maimed, and dying for the potential private profit coming from drugs and oil.

U.S. indirectly paying Afghan warlords as part of security contract

The U.S. military is funding a massive protection racket in Afghanistan, indirectly paying tens of millions of dollars to warlords, corrupt public officials and the Taliban to ensure safe passage of its supply convoys throughout the country, according to congressional investigators.
The security arrangements, part of a $2.16 billion transport contract, violate laws on the use of private contractors, as well as Defense Department regulations, and "dramatically undermine" larger U.S. objectives of curtailing corruption and strengthening effective governance in Afghanistan, a report released late Monday said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unflipping believable; your tax dollars at work, folks.

Report finds U.S. tax money may be funding Afghan insurgents

Private security contractors protecting the convoys that supply U.S. military bases in Afghanistan are paying millions of dollars a week in "passage bribes" to the Taliban and other insurgent groups to travel along Afghan roads, a congressional investigation released Monday has found.

Webmaster's Commentary:

US Army hires contractor to transport the supplies soldiers need to fight the Taliban. Contractor hires locals to do the job. Locals bribe Taliban not to attack their convoys. Taliban gets money they need to resist US forces.

This is the same government that insists it can manage your health care and save the world from carbon dioxide.

Corruption Suspected in Airlift of Billions in Cash From Kabul

KABUL—More than $3 billion in cash has been openly flown out of Kabul International Airport in the past three years, a sum so large that U.S. investigators believe top Afghan officials and their associates are sending billions of diverted U.S. aid and logistics dollars and drug money to financial safe havens abroad.
The cash—packed into suitcases, piled onto pallets and loaded into airplanes—is declared and legal to move. But U.S. and Afghan officials say they are targeting the flows in major anticorruption and drug trafficking investigations because of their size relative to Afghanistan's small economy and the murkiness of their origins.

Drugs for Europe: Protected by Powerful Western Interests, Afghanistan Heroin Transits Through Kosovo

Two years ago a joke was being circulated on the Runet that a heroin producer has recognized its distributor’s independence. It was about Afghanistan, which was to the first to recognize the independence of the Serbian province of Kosovo which had illegally separated from Yugoslavia.

Kosovo has since become a transit point for drugs, channelled from Asia to Europe.

According to a Canadian detective, the Albanian drug mafia operates with the connivance of the United States, and that US diplomats prevent the detention in Kosovo of notorious drug traffickers. The Canadian detective also confirmed that Kosovo’s current Prime Minister Hashim Thaci leads the biggest Albanian mafia clan.

Afghan war overtakes Vietnam to become the longest conflict in U.S. history

Afghanistan has become the longest conflict in American history - surpassing even the Vietnam war.

The war entered its 104th month yesterday, with 30,000 American troops being deployed in the first half of this year alone.

The last U.S. ground combat soldiers were brought home from Vietnam after 103 months of fighting.

'Uranium making Punjab kids retarded'

Confirming Punjab’s worst fear and The Times of India reports, a resounding document from Germany’s Microtrace Mineral Lab has revealed that hair samples of 80% of 149 neurologically disabled children, mainly from southern Malwa region, have high levels of uranium.

Presence of the radioactive element has strengthened doubts that depleted uranium (DU) used by American tanks in Iraq and Afghanistan travelled through air, reaching not just the region but Delhi as well. TOI was the first to report the suspected presence of uranium traces in the hair of kids undergoing treatment at Baba Farid Centre for Special Children.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unflipping believable; not only has the US's military's use of DU weapons poisoned Afghanistan and Iraq; it's hit India as well.

US troops executing prisoners in Afghanistan, journalist says

New Yorker journalist Seymour Hersh also revealed that the Bush Administration had developed advanced plans for a military strike on Iran.

At the Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Geneva, Hersh criticized President Barack Obama, and alleged that US forces are engaged in "battlefield executions."

The journalist who helped break the story that detainees at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq were being tortured by their US jailers told an audience at a journalism conference last month that American soldiers are now executing prisoners in Afghanistan.

I'll tell you right now, one of the great tragedies of my country is that Mr. Obama is looking the other way, because equally horrible things are happening to prisoners, to those we capture in Afghanistan," Hersh said. "They're being executed on the battlefield. It's unbelievable stuff going on there that doesn't necessarily get reported. Things don't change.

"What they've done in the field now is, they tell the troops, you have to make a determination within a day or two or so whether or not the prisoners you have, the detainees, are Taliban," Hersh added. "You must extract whatever tactical intelligence you can get, as opposed to strategic, long-range intelligence, immediately. And if you cannot conclude they're Taliban, you must turn them free.

"What it means is, and I've been told this anecdotally by five or six different people, battlefield executions are taking place," he continued. "Well, if they can't prove they're Taliban, bam. If we don't do it ourselves, we turn them over to the nearby Afghan troops and by the time we walk three feet the bullets are flying. And that's going on now."

The video of Hersh was uploaded to Michael Moore's YouTube account Tuesday.

Hersh has a long history as an investigative journalist and worked for many years at The New York Times. In 1969, he broke the story of the My Lai massacre in Vietnam.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There has been absolutely no changes between the Bush and Obama Administrations; simply a terrifying continuity, all at the expense of the people whose countries we occupy, and at the expense of the American people.

Taliban attack key U.S. base in Afghanistan

By Heidi Vogt and Rahim Faiez, Associated Press Writers

Insurgents launched a brazen pre-dawn assault Wednesday against the giant U.S.-run Bagram Air Field, killing an American contractor and wounding nine troops in the second Taliban strike at NATO forces in and around the capital in as many days.

Afghan Govt Reports Surge in Civilian Deaths

The usually conservative figures on civilian deaths coming from the Afghan government showed 173 civilians died in the most recent month, a 33% rise year over year from 2009.

Another significant portion of those deaths, though one not explicitly included in the Afghan government’s news conference, was civilians killed by NATO troops. Though there were not any of the major air strikes in the past month, several high profile shootings have left NATO’s reputation in the nation in serious disrepair.

U.S. military suffers major defeat in Korengal Valley, forced to retreat

The U.S. military has retreated from a base in the remote Korengal Valley, Afghanistan, after spending over four years trying to hold the ground. The U.S. forces even negotiated the terms of their defeat, paying the resistance fighters and leaving them the base fully intact with buildings, fuel, generators and military equipment, in order to be allowed a peaceful retreat out of the valley.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is no "shift in strategy"; it is a bloody military catastrophe for the US, which never learned the lessons of the old Soviet Union, when they had to pull their soldiers out of Afghanistan.

Gulf Oil Spill "Could Go on for Years and Years" ...

- by F. William Engdahl - 2010-06-11

The Obama Administration and BP are not working not to stop the world’s worst oil disaster, but to hide the true extent of the actual ecological catastrophe.

Scientist Awed by Size, Density of Undersea Oil Plume in Gulf

http://www.nytimes.com/gwire/2010/06/08/08greenwire-scientist-awed-by-size-density-of-undersea-oil-98517.html

Vast underwater concentrations of oil sprawling for miles in the Gulf of Mexico from the damaged, crude-belching BP PLC well are unprecedented in "human history" and threaten to wreak havoc on marine life, a team of scientists said today, a finding confirmed for the first time by federal officials.

Researchers aboard the F.G. Walton Smith vessel briefed reporters on a two-week cruise in which they traced an underwater oil plum 15 miles wide, 3 miles long and about 600 feet thick. The plume's core is 1,100 to 1,300 meters below the surface, they said.

"It's an infusion of oil and gas unlike anything else that has ever been seen anywhere, certainly in human history," said Samantha Joye of the University of Georgia, the expedition leader.

Tropical Storm Alex gaining strength over Gulf

Tropical Storm Alex was gaining strength Monday as it swirled across the Gulf of Mexico on a path toward Mexico's northeastern coast that threatened to push oil from the massive spill farther inland.
The tropical storm's centre wasn't expected to approach the area of the oil spill off Louisiana's coast, said Stacy Stewart, senior hurricane specialist at the National Hurricane Center in Miami. But Alex's outer wind field could push oil from the spill farther inland and hinder operations in the area, Stewart said early Monday.
Forecasters also said Alex could become a hurricane later in the day or on Tuesday.

Florida Beaches Reopen: 400 Get Sick

The Escambia County Health Department lifted a health advisory on Pensacola Beach on Friday on the advice of a beach official and against the advice of a federal environmental official....[leaving] the decision to swim in the Gulf of Mexico up to the discretion of individual beachgoers.
The oil impact signs would be posted indefinitely and warn beachgoers that oil has washed up on the beaches. But... would not prohibit people from going swimming... would warn beachgoers to avoid touching oily product on the beach and in the water... would advise them leaving the beach and seeking medical help if they experience respiratory problems.

IRS says it wants its share of BP payments received by oil spill victims

The Internal Revenue Service says oil spill victims who receive BP payments for lost wages will have to pay up come tax time.
Under current law, BP payments for lost wages are taxable -- just like the wages would have been, the IRS said in tax guidance issued Friday. Payments for physical injuries or property loss, however, are generally tax free. Payments for emotional distress? Taxable, though medical expenses related to the emotional distress are deductible.

A morning flight over the Mississippi Sound showed long, wide ribbons of orange-colored oil for as far as the eye could see and acres of both heavy and light sheen moving into the Sound between the barrier islands. What was missing was any sign of skimming operations from Horn Island to Pass Christian.
Saturday’s briefing projected oil would be on the beaches of the barrier islands, the Chandeleurs, in Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. For Sunday the projection of beached oil showed thicker lines as the bulk of the oil body moved closer.
For Monday the projection was more of the same, except it included a red X at Bay St. Louis, meaning the forecast is oil will reach the mainland there.

Gulf Coast Toxicity Syndrome

While the situation in the Gulf is grim it will soon get a lot grimmer. There are certain chemicals mixed in with the oil that release toxic gases, finding a way to make it up into the air. Many different gases from hydrogen sulfate to benzene are being released into the air at around 4000 times what it considered safe to humans. As a result of this people are going to become gravely ill. People are going to be poisoned and unfortunately some are going to die. We have already seen breathing problems in the Gulf region and now reports are coming in as far away as Atlanta, Georgia.

Reaching too Far, Delving too Deep: The Well from Hell

Some geologists say that BP's arrogance has set off a series of events that may be irreversible. There are some that think that BP has drilled into an deep-core oil volcano that cannot be stopped, regardless of the horizontal drills the company claims will stop the oil plume in August.
Geologist, Chris Landau, for instance, has called for a showing of the mudlogs. A mudlog is a schematic cross sectional drawing of the lithology (rock type) of the well that has been bored.
So far, no one has seen them... BP keeps them hidden.

Alabama State Troopers Moonlighting as BP Security Guards

Some people are advised to relocate now.
Satellite imagery that Obama's administration withheld shows "under the gaping chasm spewing oil at an ever-alarming rate is a cavern estimated to be around the size of Mount Everest. BP presents oil containment plan: official

Energy giant BP has presented a new plan to contain more than 50,000 barrels a day of oil gushing from a ruptured Gulf of Mexico well by the end of June, an administration official said Monday.

he revised strategy would increase the capture of oil to a range of 40,000 to 53,000 barrels a day by the end of June, which would grow to 60,000 to 80,000 barrels a day by mid-July, according to the administration official.

However BP cautioned in its letter to Coast Guard Rear Admiral James Watson, "The quoted numbers represent installed design capacities and any unplanned events will impact actual delivery."

Webmaster's Commentary:

If BP had a working containment plan, it would have been working by now.

BP has had neither the engineering or scientific acumen to make this happen.

13 foreign nations who have companies with the expertise on this kind of disaster have offered to assist, but have been rebuffed, until now:

"The State Department sent letters to some U.S. allies two weeks after the accident, and the Coast Guard initially sought to assess what supplies might be available overseas, but the administration's public posture on aid has been inconsistent. On May 5, Crowley announced that 13 international offers had been received and that decisions on what to accept would be made "in the next day or two." Two weeks later, the State Department said the government saw no reason to accept any of the offers. "

This is a man-made catastrophe, but it has been made far worse by Obama's administration not accepting desperately needed help in time.

In First Oval Office Speech, Obama Seeks to Ease Political Damage of Gulf Crisis

Webmaster's Commentary:

Obama's speech was an infinite deal of nothing and not even presented very well. Somewhere a White House aid suggested using his hands to emphasize sincerity. That failed miserably as Obama's hands were for the most totally in sync, which made the gesture look contrived and artificial, sort of like Jean Luc Picard on an indecisive day, or for those my age, Mitch Miller urging us all to follow the bouncing ball.

My wife commented that Obama looked to be trying for a Roosevelt Fireside Chat and failing miserably.

In summation (not hard; it was only an 18 minute speech) Obama stated what we already know; that there is a honking huge hole in the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico leaking vast amounts of oil, BP/Transocean put it there and the Federal Government looked the other way while the safety systems/regulations were bypassed.

Then Obama stated what we also know; that nobody has a good idea how to stop this mess, that their best hope is to put down enough hoses to suck up the oil as fast as it leaks from the blown wellhead. Left unsaid is the growing field of seepage extending for thousands of feet around the wellhead. Nobody has a solution for that. Also left unsaid is that there were already ample safety regulations and a government oversight agency in place, but the Obama administration handed out exemptions and waivers to the oil companies like party favors!

And finally, Obama tried to exploit the Gulf Oil disaster to push through his carbon tax agenda, dead because the globe actually refused to get warmer but now resurrected to deprive Americans of more freedoms and tax money because BP screwed up while the Federal Government looked the other way.

If Obama thought this speech would reduce the political damage from the gulf disaster (and the speech did not seem to address any other issues in a substantive fashion), then he failed. The American people, already furious over Obama's treason in defending Israel following their attack on American aid workers in international waters, are not willing to accept that they must make do with less so that BP can have more.

Obama is a one term President, if indeed the Federal government as a whole is able to survive America's Chernobyl!

Judge in oil spill case sells energy stocks

BP oil spill Corexit dispersants suspected in widespread crop damage

Last May 24, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson promised, "We will conduct our own tests to determine the least toxic, most effective dispersant available in the volumes necessary for a crisis of this magnitude... I am not satisfied that BP has done an extensive enough analysis of other dispersant options."
As of today, those tests have not been completed, according to the EPA. In the meantime, BP has dumped 1.4 million gallons of Corexit on the gulf.
t seems like damage brought by the oil gusher has spread way beyond the ocean, coastal areas and beaches. Collateral damage now appears to include agricultural damage way inland Mississippi.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The damage to the US food chain here may be more horrendous than any one originally thought, particularly if Corexit has damaged crops in inland Mississippi.

Exxon Valdez foreman: ‘Oil is 1,000 times more toxic than we thought’

Many of the thousands of Exxon Valdez cleanup workers have died or have become seriously ill from inhaling the toxic mist and handling dispersants that contained benzene and other chemicals.

20 million people are “to have to evacuate the gulf states” says prominent oil-industry insider

A tropical wave has formed in the Caribbean and could conceivably blow through the gulf.
“We’re going to have to evacuate the gulf states,” said Matt Simmons, founder of Simmons and Co., an oil investment firm and, since the April 20 blowout, the unflagging source of end-of-the-world predictions. “Can you imagine evacuating 20 million people? . . . This story is 80 times worse than I thought.” …

Fire BP, Remove Them from the Crime Scene and Let a Team of Experts Fix This Mess on BP's Dime

BP was criminally negligent in drilling the well which blew out. See this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this and this.

It has bungled everything it has done since. Indeed - as discussed below - it has made things worse.

And BP has tried to cover up its blunders by lowballing spill estimates, keeping reporters out of areas hardest hit by the oil (and see this, this, this and this) and threatening to arrest them if they try to take pictures, hiding dead birds and other sealife, telling cleanup workers they'll be fired if they use respirators, and using dispersants to hide the amount of spilled oil (the dispersants are only worsening the damage caused by the spill).

Given the enormous stakes (don't forget that we are starting a potentially "extremely active" hurricane season), why are we letting BP continue to be in charge of containment operations?

BP Gets OK To Burn Off Captured Oil, Gas At Sea

BP won permission to start burning oil and gas piped up from its broken seafloor well as part of a pledge to more than triple how much crude it stops from spewing into the Gulf of Mexico.

Federal authorities gave permission late Monday for BP PLC to use a new method that involves pumping oil from the busted wellhead to a special ship on the surface, were it would be burned off rather than collected.

Who Voted to Limit the Liability of Oil Companies?

In 1990 Congress adopted the Oil Pollution Act. This act set liability limitations to $75 million for oil spills like the one we are witnessing in the Gulf Coast today. Setting a liability limit on damages created by oil drilling can only encourage the lowering and neglect of safety standards and procedures, ultimately causing more oil spills.

BP Spill Response Plans Severely Flawed

Among the glaring errors in the report: A professor is listed in BP's 2009 response plan for a Gulf of Mexico oil spill as a national wildlife expert. He died in 2005.

The plan lists cold-water marine mammals including walruses, sea otters, sea lions and seals as "sensitive biological resources." None of those animals live anywhere near the Gulf.

Also, names and phone numbers of several Texas A&M University marine life specialists are wrong. So are the numbers for marine mammal stranding network offices in Louisiana and Florida, which are disconnected.

BP hires private security contractors to guard ‘black water’

If they had hired Blackwater, the firm would have had a particularly appropriate sounding name for the job: guarding tar-stained beaches.

In their latest eyebrow-raising PR move, multinational oil giant BP has enlisted private security contractors to keep onlookers away from oil cleanup sites. While the firm they hired apparently isn't Blackwater (the private security firm Blackwater changed their name to Xe Services after a spate of killings in Baghdad, and has now put itself up for sale), they certainly seem to have 'black water' in their sights.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If BP has gone to these extraordinary lengths to keep people away from the cleanup sites, this catastrophe is far worse than either BP or the Federal government is willing to divulge.

In response to a question from TPMDC, House Minority Leader John Boehner said he believes taxpayers should help pick up the tab for the clean up.

BP oil leak aftermath: Slow-motion tragedy unfolds for marine life

According to marine biologist Rick Steiner, my companion on a boat ride through the slick, this is the most volatile and toxic form of crude oil in the waters and lapping on to the beaches of Grand Isle, the area at the heart of the slowly unfolding environmental apocalypse that has engulfed Louisiana, and is now moving eastwards, threatening Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle.

Fifty-three days after BP's ruptured well began spewing crude oil from 5,000ft below the sea, the wholesale slaughter of dolphins, pelicans, hermit crab and other marine life is only now becoming readily visible to humans.

Human rights group: BP discouraging crews from using respirators

BP's logic seems to be that if the oil cleanup doesn't look dangerous then it must not be. The oil company has told workers not to wear respirators because it's bad for public relations, according to one human rights group.

"In all three states that I've visited, fishermen said when they went out to work on the cleanup, that if they tried to bring respirators they were told it was unnecessary equipment and would only spread hysteria," Kennedy told Fox News Friday.

"When I went out with eleven people, we had respirators on and within half an hour, all of our eyes were burning and our throats were closing and we all had headaches," she explained.

Kennedy was also concerned that BP was refusing to release information about the contents of the dispersant being used.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember right after 9/11, and rescue workers were told that the air was completely safe to breathe?

Unflipping believable.

Toxic Corexit dispersant chemicals remained secret as feds colluded with Big Business

After weeks of silence on the issue, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finally decided to go public with the list of ingredients used to manufacture Corexit, the chemical dispersant used by BP in the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster. There are two things about this announcement that deserve our attention: First, the ingredients that have been disclosed are extremely toxic, and second, why did the EPA protect the oil industry's "trade secrets" for so long by refusing to disclose these ingredients until now?

How BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil find was originally reported in September 2009

Below are a few media reports from September 2009 discussing the BP Gulf of Mexico Tiber Oil Field find when it originally hit the newswires. This was the deepest oil and gas well in human history, going to a depth of 35,000 feet. Exploratory drilling began in March 2009. Deepwater Horizon did not commence until September 2009. Only the second story from Bloomberg hints at the "volatility" related to the find and the need for "caution."

RED ALERT! MSM reports "DOOMSDAY scenario" about new Oil Spill developments

Coast Guard’s Expert: “There will be oil off the coast of Miami shortly, if it’s not already there. It’s happening”

“There will be oil off the coast of Miami shortly, if it’s not already there. It’s happening,” says Dr. Robert H. Weisberg, director of the University of South Florida Ocean Circulation Group in the school’s College of Marine Science. And Weisberg says he has the forecasts to prove it–four of them to be exact. The latest updates to those forecast has oil from the Gulf spill showing up in the Gulf Stream off the coast of Miami today.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oil was being reported off the coast of Fort Lauderdale yesterday.

As a side note, just because water isn't black or brown does not mean it is safe. Methane, or natural gas, is colorless and odorless (the stinky smell is actually added to gas as a safety precaution by the gas company prior to piping it to your home) and dissolves in water the same as oxygen and carbon-dioxide so. Below 1500 feet, the methane and water form a white solid known as methane hydrate, but above 1500 feet, where the Deepwater Horizon wellhead is located, the methane and water remains a clear colorless solution that is not confined to the oil globules. Thus, the biohazard is not confined to the visible pollution areas.

What’s worse than doomsday? This is it.

These new leaks we are now facing, if confirmed, would mean that there is oil gushing up in multiple disparate places on the Gulf sea floor

Oil could begin leaking from any crack or crevice in the surrounding sea floor and the entire area could be leaking like a sponge.

Why Did The U.S. Refuse International Help on The Gulf Oil Spill?

U.S. Refused Help on Oil Spill

Gulf Oil Spill ‘Could Go Years’ If Not Dealt With

What the enormoity of the oil spill does is to also further discredit clearly the oil companies’ myth of “peak oil” which claims that the world is at or near the “peak” of economical oil extraction. That myth, which has been propagated in recent years by circles close to former oilman and Bush Vice President, Dick Cheney, has been effectively used by the giant oil majors to justify far higher oil prices than would be politically possible otherwise, by claiming a non-existent petroleum scarcity crisis.

Why is Obama refusing to waive the Jones Act? He's aiding in the destruction of the Gulf

Obama has refused to waive the Jones Act. His Administration keeps putting the blame on the Coast Guard who puts the blame on others for not requesting the Jones Act be waived. Yet a simple Executive Order signed by Obama could waive the Jones Act in about 3 minutes, less time than it takes Obama to set up a tee on the golf course. The Gulf is in dire need of all the help it can get. When foreign entities with better expertise and equipment in oil spills offer to help, why is Obama refusing? While Obama dithers in his bad leadership of the Oil Spill, the Gulf Coast dies more and more each day.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My sense is that the Obama administration doesn't want foreign companies to actually assess the full extent of the damage to the Gulf Coast, and go public with that knowledge, because the damage is far worse than either the Administration, or BP, wants the American public to know.

Obama to Gulf Coast Residents: Normal Will Return

President Barack Obama is promising Gulf Coast residents that the region will be left in better shape than it was before the massive BP oil spill that fouled the waters and threatened their way of life.

On a visit to the Alabama coast Monday, Obama said his administration will do everything it can, working all day every day, to make sure that coastal communities now suffering economically get back on their feet.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is time to invoke the 25th Amendment because this man has gone totally insane.

First, one look at Prince William Sound, site of the Exxon Valdez disaster in 1989, shows that "normal" never came back. Of course, what Obama may really be saying is, "Get used to it, because this is the NEW normal!"

Second, all the posturing about what Obama will do in the future, including his renewed push for a carbon tax and "mandated lifestyle behavior" is a smoke screen to conceal the fact that the US Government allowed this disaster to happen. Obama is tal,ing about new agencies and new procedures but the fact is that there were already agencies (the MMS) and procedures (drilling mud before capping, acoustic cutoffs, etc.) in place that did not work because they were allowed to be bypassed. Any new agencies and procedures put into place will also be bypassed in the name of profit if we first do not replace the government that taxes the people to add lifeboats to the Titanic, then leaves half of them on the dock at sailing time. Obama's posturing is an attempt to transfer the responsibility for this mess from himself and the corporations onto the general population.

Gulf Oil Spill "Could Go on Years and Years" ...

The Obama Administration and senior BP officials are frantically working not to stop the world’s worst oil disaster, but to hide the true extent of the actual ecological catastrophe. Senior researchers tell us that the BP drilling hit one of the oil migration channels and that the leakage could continue for years unless decisive steps are undertaken, something that seems far from the present strategy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Obama/PB "strategy" on this appears to be much like touching up an xray to hide a metastasizing cancer.

BP Censoring Media & Destroying Evidence

While President Obama insists that the federal government is firmly in control of the response to BP's spill in the Gulf, people in coastal communities where I visited last week in Louisiana and Alabama know an inconvenient truth: BP -- not our president -- controls the response. In fact, people on the ground say things are out of control in the gulf.

Even worse, as my latest week of adventures illustrate, BP is using federal agencies to shield itself from public accountability.

BP Dispersant Ingredients And Their Use In GM Cops

Corexit EC9527A is 30-60% 2-Butoxyethanol by weight. 2-B ( I will use the abbreviation 2-B ) is a main ingredient in many fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides ( especially Roundup ), insecticides, fuels, fungicides, cosmetics & leather treatment , and oddly enough, it is commonly used for " handling " oil spills .
.... The main argument for the use of COREXIT products, I have heard , is based on the studies of algae and microbial life in the Gulf ... These microbes cannot proliferate until the Oxygen is depleted from the water. The colder temp loving microbes eat only short-chain hydrocarbons like gases, and the warmer clime-preferring ones are easily killed by 2-B. In order for these cold temp loving microbes to digest Hydrocarbon gases, these gases must first be produced. The gases they actually do eat are methane (CH4 ) ethane (C2H6), propane (C3H8) and butane (C4H10). They gases they produce are Hydrogen Cyanide and Hydrogen Sulfide.

The breakdown products of COREXIT are CO2 and Carbon Monoxide, neither of which stay suspended in salt-water at 5k' +, nor do the indigenous bacteria in the Gulf eat them. What does stay suspended in water is 2-B.

So that argument is moot.

Over 2,000 Skimmers Available In US That Obama Refuses To Use

f one was a cynic than you would believe that the complete inaction on the part of this adminstration was purposeful and used in an effort to perhaps ram through their agenda. A crisis was created, its almost as if it is deliberately not being fixed, clear options on the table are not being used and one can only wonder why!
Senator Lemieux spoke with President Obama and the exchange between the two over the 2,000 skimmers in the US currently going unused to clean up this massive oil spill will blow your mind!

Webmaster's Commentary:

This was too good a crisis for Obama to "waste" in terms of promoting his carbon tax agenda.

Louisiana residents report oil-spill related illnesses

Two months since the start of the Gulf Coast oil spill, residents, fishermen and experts throughout the Gulf of Mexico are reporting respiratory problems and other illnesses attributable to oil contamination.
"We’re getting sick down here. People are losing their voices; our noses are running and our eyes are crying all the time," said Dean Blanchard, operator of a Grand Isle, Louisiana-based shrimp distribution company. "I went down to Bourbon Street in New Orleans and the urine on the cement smelled better than the air does down here."

Obama ban on deepwater drilling blocked

A federal judge Tuesday ruled against the Obama administration's six-month moratorium on deepwater drilling in the wake of the BP oil spill. The White House, which had hoped the ban would provide time to ensure other wells are operating safely, immediately said it would appeal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My goodness, looks like BP has more clout in the US than the White House. We already knew the White House rolled over for Israel, but an oil company? Obama is totally useless!

So, I wonder who it was in the legal system that understands Obama is a lame duck less than halfway through his first term? Judge Martin Feldman, BP attorney Carl Rosenblum, Transocean attorney Steven L. Newman. Hmmm, I sense a pattern here!

As it turns out, the judge in the case has a conflict of interest! He owned stock in Transocean

Not really! Shortly thereafter, Wheelan got in his car and drove away but was soon was pulled over.
It was the same cop, but this time he had company: Kenneth Thomas, whose badge, Wheelan told me, read "Chief BP Security." The cop stood by as Thomas interrogated Wheelan for 20 minutes, asking him who he worked with, who he answered to, what he was doing, why he was down here in Louisiana.

Obama Administration Knew About Deepwater Horizon 35,000 Feet Well Bore

According to the Wayne Madsen Report (WMR) sources within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Pentagon and Interior and Energy Departments told the Obama Administration that the newly-discovered estimated 3-4 billion barrels of oil in the Gulf of Mexico would cover America's oil needs for up to eight months if there was a military attack on Iran that resulted in the bottling up of the Strait of Hormuz to oil tanker traffic, resulting in a cut-off of oil to the United States from the Persian Gulf.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So now instead of being merely incompetent, now it looks like Obama may have knowingly took a risky gamble by pushing forward on the Deepwater Horizon well as a preparation for the attack on Iran!

Oil Executives Tell Committee That BP Spill Is an Aberration

The chief executives of the world’s largest oil companies faced a Congressional panel of inquisitors on Tuesday and tried to cast the BP spill as a rare event that their companies were not likely to repeat.

In their remarks, the executives said that continued offshore exploration and drilling were essential to American oil and gas supplies and to the health of their industry.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Corporations are entities which, by their very nature, have no conscience.

Therefore, it is up to Congress to enact legislation ensuring that the best possible "safe practices and standards" be observed at every stage of the drilling process, if in fact offshore drilling is allowed to continue, coupled with a rigorous, consistent inspection process.

Unfortunately, due to their large overt and covert contributions to US politicians' campaigns over the years, the oil industry has pretty much prevented that from happening to date.

One has to wonder if the economic and ecological disaster will generate enough fury, on the part of the people whose lives have been destroyed by the BP disaster, to remind politicians who they are really supposed to be working for.

Barack Obama turns the oil spill into his poor man's 9/11 to revive Cap-and-Trade climate legislation

“You never let a serious crisis go to waste,” Rahm Emanuel, Barack Obama’s chief of staff, famously remarked. “And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” The extent to which his master has absorbed this maxim is demonstrated by Obama’s exploitation of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Obama has not exaggerated "...the significance of the oil spill crisis to massive proportions..."

In fact, to date, he has been doing everything possible to protect BP from the inevitable financial implications of this disaster.

We do not actually have hard numbers on the extent of this catastrophe, not will we know the actual scope of its true size and impact for some time to come.

But to use this as the basis for ramming a carbon tax through Congress is utterly disgusting. It is simply a tax which will ultimately have no measurable effect on the environment, nor
prevent another oil spill like the one we have just experienced in the Gulf.

Rahm Emanuel’s BP Connection

Imagine if Bush were president right now, and it was revealed that his chief of staff had lived rent-free in the home of one of BP’s consultants. Yeah, that might be something the MSM would report on. Andrew Malcom on the Rahm Emanuel’s BP bennies:

Judge Who Overturned Drilling Ban Has Oil Investments

The Louisiana judge who struck down the Obama administration's six-month ban on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico has reported extensive investments in the oil and gas industry, according to financial disclosure reports. He's also a new member of a secret national security court.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A rather disturbing picture is starting to emerge here. According to Wayne Madsen, the US Government was pressuring BP to reach that huge oil deposit at 35,000 feet because it would fuel the US war machine for the 8 months the invasion of Iran is supposed to take, during which oil traffic through the gulf is expected to be disrupted. This is why even after the Deepwater Horizon disaster, exemptions and waivers for environmental studies are being waived by the administration. Being an election year, Obama is trying to look like he is protecting the environment, so he issues an order to halt the deep drilling and lets his buddy the judge on the secret FIA court knock it down. So the drilling goes on and Obama gets to pose before the voters.
And the invasion of Iran for Israel proceeds with only a modest delay.

Gulf of Mexico oil spill is flowing at a rate of up to 2.52 million gallons a day, scientists say

Scientists provided a new estimate for the amount of oil gushing from the ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday that indicates it could be leaking up to 2.52 million gallons of crude a day.

Deepwater Horizon: The Worst-Case Scenario

So far, up to 3.6 million barrels of oil have spilled into the Gulf. The size of the Macondo oilfield has been estimated as being anywhere from 25 to 100 million barrels. It is unclear how much of that oil-in-place would escape upward into Gulf waters if its flow remained completely unchecked, but it is safe to assume that at least half, and probably a much greater proportion, would eventually drain upward. That means many times as much oil would enter the Gulf waters as has done so until now.

Officials Worried About The Gulf Cleanup Materials Sent To Their Landfills

They have good reason to worry. Even though BP claims otherwise, we just don't know for sure and you shouldn't just dump it anywhere (although I suspect they will, anyway):
About 35,000 bags — or 250 tons — of oily trash have been carted away from this beach, said Lt. Patrick Hanley of the Coast Guard, who is stationed at Port Fourchon. And as of Monday, more than 175,000 gallons of liquid waste — a combination of oil and water — had been sent to landfills, as had 11,276 cubic yards of solid waste, said Petty Officer Gail Dale, also of the Coast Guard, who works with at the command center in Houma.

BP's next challenge: Disposal of tainted sludge (BP saying waste is not toxic)

Oil giant BP is facing a huge new challenge in disposing of the millions of gallons of potentially toxic oil sludge its crews are collecting from the Gulf of Mexico, according to industry experts and veterans of past spills.
Crews so far have skimmed and sucked up 21.1 million gallons of oil mixed with water, according to the Deepwater Horizon Unified Command. Because the out-of-control well may continue spewing for months, that total almost certainly will surge.
BP's plan for handling the gooey mess, written in conjunction with the Coast Guard, the Environmental Protection Agency and Louisiana officials, calls for reclaiming or recycling as much as possible.

BP Oil Disaster now larger than Chernobyl!

Gulf oil full of methane, adding new concerns

It is an overlooked danger in the oil spill crisis: The crude gushing from the well contains vast amounts of natural gas that could pose a serious threat to the Gulf of Mexico's fragile ecosystem.
The oil emanating from the seafloor contains about 40 percent methane, compared with about 5 percent found in typical oil deposits, said John Kessler, a Texas A&M University oceanographer who is studying the impact of methane from the spill.
That means huge quantities of methane have entered the Gulf, scientists say, potentially suffocating marine life and creating "dead zones" where oxygen is so depleted that nothing lives.

Who Died And Made BP The King Of The Gulf Of Mexico?
Michael Snyder | Jun. 18, 2010, 8:12 AM |
In recent weeks, BP has almost seemed more interested in keeping the American people away from the oil spill than in actually cleaning it up.
Journalists are being pushed around and denied access, disaster workers are being intimidated and abused and now BP has even go so far as to hire an army of private mercenaries to enforce their will along the Gulf coast. Are we suddenly living in occupied Iraq? How in the world did a foreign oil company get the right to start pointing guns at the American people? The last time I checked, BP did not own the Gulf of Mexico and did not have the right to tell the American people where they can and cannot go.

Disaster capitalists: Halliburton to make money off oil spill

One has to wonder just what the Halliburton execs knew, and when they knew it, to understand what a great buy this would be.

BP Aware Of Cracks In Oil Well Two Months Before Explosion

BP was aware of cracks appearing in the Macondo well as far back as February, right around the time Goldman Sachs and BP Chairman Tony Hayward were busy dumping their stocks in the company on the eve of the explosion that led to the oil spill, according to information uncovered by congressional investigators.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Did the BP Oil Well Really Blow Out in February, Instead of April?

It took 10 days to plug the first cracks, according to reports BP filed with the Minerals Management Service that were later delivered to congressional investigators. Cracks in the surrounding rock continued to complicate the drilling operation during the ensuing weeks. Left unsealed, they can allow explosive natural gas to rush up the shaft.

“Once they realized they had oil down there, all the decisions they made were designed to get that oil at the lowest cost,” said Peter Galvin of the Center for Biological Diversity, which has been working with congressional investigators probing the disaster. “It’s been a doomed voyage from the beginning.”

Fueling War: Pentagon Still Buying Most of Its Oil and Gas from BP

BP holds more than $2 billion in annual US defense contracts and continues to be the premiere provider of fuel to the world's largest consumer of oil and gas: the Pentagon. BP is responsible for the worst environmental crime in US history. It is responsible for the deaths of 11 oil rig workers. Attorney General Eric Holder said he is conducting both criminal and civil probes into BP's actions in the US Gulf.

License To Drill

At his long-awaited press conference on the Gulf oil disaster last month, President Obama announced a moratorium on new oil drilling and exploration for six months. "We can't do this stuff if we don't have confidence that we can prevent crises like this from happening again," he declared. But while existing rigs may be out of commission for the near future, the administration hasn't exactly put the brakes on new oil and gas drilling ventures. In recent weeks, the government has quietly approved the sale of more than 400 new leases for vast swaths of the Gulf of Mexico. And these contracts—which mark the first step in the drilling process—were subjected to the same slapdash environmental oversight that failed to prevent the BP catastrophe.

Sea creatures flee oil spill, gather near shore

Dolphins and sharks are showing up in surprisingly shallow water just off the Florida coast. Mullets, crabs, rays and small fish congregate by the thousands off an Alabama pier. Birds covered in oil are crawling deep into marshes, never to be seen again.

Marine scientists studying the effects of the BP disaster are seeing some strange — and troubling — phenomena.

Fish and other wildlife are fleeing the oil out in the Gulf and clustering in cleaner waters along the coast. But that is not the hopeful sign it might appear to be, researchers say.

The animals' presence close to shore means their usual habitat is badly polluted, and the crowding could result in mass die-offs as fish run out of oxygen.

NPR Confirms: 70,000 Barrels A Day – One Exxon Valdez Spill Every 4 days – Leaking In Gulf Oil Spill

Finally, a scientific analysis has been done on the video from BP, after I suggested the videos show proof that Government was concealing the amount of oil leaking into the Gulf of Mexico. Scientific analysis confirms that at least 70,000 barrels of oil a day are leaking in the Gulf oil spill. That’s an Exxon Valdez spill every 4 days.

NPR has learned that much more oil, 70,000 barrels a day or more than ten times the official estimate, is gushing into the Gulf of Mexico from the Deepwater Horizon pipe, based on scientific analysis of the video released Wednesday.

That’s the equivalent of one Exxon Valdez tanker full every four days.

I repeat one Exxon Valdez tanker full of oil is leaking into the Gulf of Mexico every four days. That 70,000 barrel per day number is much higher than the official Government reported number and is even higher the worse case number BP gave to congress.

I am now awaiting on more from All things Considered.

BP Was Founding Member of ‘Cap-and-Trade’ Lobby

Expect BP to be public enemy No. 1 in the climate debate.

There’s a problem: BP was a founding member of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (USCAP), a lobby dedicated to passing a cap-and-trade bill. As the nation’s largest producer of natural gas, BP saw many ways to profit from climate legislation, notably by persuading Congress to provide subsidies to coal-fired power plants that switched to gas.

Dear Mr. President,
Mr. Obama, it would be disturbing enough if media censorship of a major event in this country were imposed by our own government. But for it to be imposed by a FOREIGN-owned corporation is unfathomable. I am not aware of any legal provision that gives standing to foreigners to authorize the arrest of American citizens for any reason, so the obvious question that follows is this: Under whose authority is the threat of arrest for photographing dead and dying animals being issued?
"Think we can't handle the truth, Mr. President? Think again.
What we really can't handle is our own government's complicity in a coverup ordered by a foreign-owned corporation."

Prudhoe Bay, BP's Other Ticking Bomb

Nearly 5,000 miles from the oil-spill catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, BP and its culture of cost-cutting are contributing to another environmental mess in the Prudhoe Bay oil field on Alaska’s north shore, according to internal BP documents and more than a dozen employees interviewed over the past month.

After two serious oil spills and other mishaps at the remote site, the BP employees fingered a long list of safety issues that have not been adequately addressed, making the Prudhoe Bay oilfield vulnerable to a devastating accident that potentially could rival the havoc in the Gulf.

Cuba braces to contend with BP oil spill

Cuba is steadying itself for an ecological and tourism crisis as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill appears to be heading towards its pristine northern coast.

Patches of oil were reportedly spotted 100 miles north-west of the island, prompting concern that gulf currents will add Cuba to the list of casualties from the April 20 Deepwater Horizon rig explosion.

And it is painfully apparent that neither Obama, nor BP, have a clue as to how to deal with this.

Waking America From the BP Nightmare

What we found was that Exxon, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Shell and BP have response plans that are virtually identical. The plans cite identical response capabilities and tout identical ineffective equipment. In some cases, they use the exact same words and made the exact same assurances.

The covers of the five response plans are different colors, but the content is ninety percent identical.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unflipping believable.

But this is precisely what happens when the oil industry and the governmental agency which is supposed to regulate it are way too cozy, which is what happened here.

This has just been confirmed by BP.

Specifically, BP's Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles told CNN last Thursday that BP's data indicates that BP can't cap the leaking oil, or it might cause the well casing to blow out:

2010/06/10/am.full.intv.roberts.suttles.cnn" />2010/06/10/am.full.intv.roberts.suttles.cnn" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="416" wmode="transparent" height="374">

Suttles denies that there is evidence that the well casing has already blown out beneath the sea floor.

But many experts - including experts working for BP -
say that there is damage beneath the sea floor. Indeed, Matt Simmons told Bloomberg today that America's top research vessel - the Thomas Jefferson - found that the well casing is gone, and can no longer even be seen on the sea floor, having been destroyed:

Federal panel of scientists sharply increase estimate of leaking oil - finally the truth?

A federal panel of scientists have sharply increased the estimate of oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico from 210,000 gallons per day to between 1.47 and 2.52 million gallons per day.

According to this new "official" estimate, that means as of Tuesday, up to 116 million gallons have leaked into the Gulf, which is more than 10 times that of the Exxon Valdez spill.

Keep in mind that it takes only one quart of oil to poison 250,000 gallons of seawater for all marine life.

Other scientists have claimed as long as a month ago that the actual amount of oil leaking could be even greater than the newly revised estimate.

Ironically, this news comes exactly one month after an article that I published for the Examiner on May 15, which quoted various scientists whom at the time estimated that the leak is far greater than the then "official" claim of 210,000 gallons per day.

Here is an excerpt of what scientists at the time were saying (currently, a barrel of oil is equivalent to 42 gallons):

Dr. Ian R. MacDonald, an oceanographer at Florida State University, who is an expert in the analysis of oil slicks, made his own calculations using satellite imagery. They suggested that the leak could “easily be four or five times” the government estimate, he said. Other scientists agree that the leak is much larger than BP and the federal government have revealed.

some scientists accused BP of trying to control the research by selecting the research topics and the members of an advisory committee that would select the institutions to oversee the money and research.

Huge Number of Disaster Drills Held Throughout America

From terrorist attacks and hurricane evacuations to submarine base and nuclear power plant mishaps; bomb blasts, plane crashes, dirty bombs, hazmat spills, earthquakes, medical disasters and train derailments, America is on high alert. Over the past several weeks to the present, more than 35 major disaster drills are taking place throughout America. It makes one wonder what's prompting all of these emergency exercises and planning venues. Was it confusion over Gov. Palin's oft-quoted "drill, baby, drill?" No, it's recognition that the Feds are leaving ordinary citizens to fend for themselves. States aren't happy about this.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If anything, the BP oil spill in the Gulf, nearly two months on, clearly demonstrates that the Federal Government is impotent to really take care of American citizens, should a catastrophe hit.

Dutch oil spill response team on standby for US oil disaster

Two Dutch companies are on stand-by to help the Americans tackle an oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico. The two companies use huge booms to sweep and suck the oil from the surface of the sea. The US authorities, however, have difficulties with the method they use.

The Americans don’t have spill response vessels with skimmers because their environment regulations do not allow it. With the Dutch method seawater is sucked up with the oil by the skimmer. The oil is stored in the tanker and the superfluous water is pumped overboard. But the water does contain some oil residue, and that is too much according to US environment regulations.[media:factfile1]

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is high time for this administration to get off their high horse, and get the American people in the Gulf some relief from this spill.

That the Dutch companies with intensive experience in dealing with large oil spills have not been called to help is infuriatingly absurd.

9/11 payout czar Kenneth Feinberg to dole out gulf oil disaster funds

President Obama's choice to oversee the gulf oil disaster fund is one of the very few people who have weighed the dollar value of devastation before: 9/11's special master Kenneth Feinberg.

Zionist Kenneth Feinberg, 9/11 Cover Up Agent, to Administer BP's $20 Billion Claim Fund

As the sole person responsible for distributing the money from the Victims Compensation Fund, Feinberg paid out nearly $7 billion to families in compensation - if they would sign the agreement not to sue the airlines or the Israeli airport security firm involved in 9-11 (Huntleigh USA/ICTS). More than 98 percent of the families accepted the money from the Feinberg-managed fund. The amounts of the payments and the amounts paid to Diane Feinberg and the 30 lawyers are not known. The American people deserve to know how the funds were used and who got paid.

BP Tells Cleanup Workers They'll Be Fired If They Wear Respirators

More egregious still, sources on the ground say that BP is telling cleanup workers that they will be fired if they wear respirators:

Why?

Because - as part of their PR campaign - BP is doing everything it can to prevent dramatic pictures or headlines regarding the oil spill.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember 9-11, where the EPA told the emergency workers that the air was perfectly safe at Ground Zero and no special protection was needed, and now all those workers are ill with cancer, mesothelioma, etc.?

BP Aware Of Cracks In Oil Well Two Months Before Explosion

BP was aware of cracks appearing in the Macondo well as far back as February, right around the time Goldman Sachs and BP Chairman Tony Hayward were busy dumping their stocks in the company on the eve of the explosion that led to the oil spill, according to information uncovered by congressional investigators.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember when the Space Shuttle Challenger had frozen O-Rings and management said, "We have to launch; we're on a tight schedule"?

Didn't work out then.

Didn't work out now.

and the lesson is that the real world does not bend to the will of CEOs and politicians, no matter how much they bark.

BP chairman says company cares about ‘the small people’

Obama said he had urged the BP bosses to remember when they were meeting in the boardroom to "keep in mind those individuals, that they are desperate, may lose business that have been in their families for two or three generations."

Svanberg agreed, saying: "We care about the small people."

Webmaster's Commentary:

A corporation is, by definition, an entity without a conscience.

In its catastrophically indifferent and cavalier handling of the Gulf Oil spill, BP managed to prove that very clearly.

Drilling Relief Wells is Tricky

Remember, there is probably damage beneath the sea floor. A misstep by BP could make things much worse.

Simmons Says Nuclear Device Only Option to Stop Oil Flow

Pres Obama Oval Office Speech On Gulf Oil Catastrophe pt.1 &2

BP Was Founding Member of ‘Cap-and-Trade’ Lobby

Expect BP to be public enemy No. 1 in the climate debate.

There’s a problem: BP was a founding member of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (USCAP), a lobby dedicated to passing a cap-and-trade bill. As the nation’s largest producer of natural gas, BP saw many ways to profit from climate legislation, notably by persuading Congress to provide subsidies to coal-fired power plants that switched to gas.

BP engineer called doomed rig a 'nightmare well'

"Time after time, it appears that BP made decisions that increased the risk of a blowout to save the company time or expense," the lawmakers wrote in the 14-page letter to Hayward. "If this is what happened, BP's carelessness and complacency have inflicted a heavy toll on the Gulf, its inhabitants, and the workers on the rig."

BP Admits That - If It Tries to Cap the Leak - the Whole Well May Blow

As I previously noted, oil industry expert Rob Cavner said that BP must "keep the well flowing to minimize oil and gas going out into the formation on the side":

Rand Paul calls Obama's criticism of BP 'un-American'

Webmaster's Commentary:

Rand is clearly not his father's son, politically. Maybe that is because Ron Paul did not start out to be a politician. But between this statement, in which Rand defends BP and totally ignores the failures of the MMS, and Rand's previous stated support for Israel, he has lost me.

75 percent of board overseeing major study into effects of oil spill have ties to BP

some scientists accused BP of trying to control the research by selecting the research topics and the members of an advisory committee that would select the institutions to oversee the money and research.

BP began burning oil siphoned from a ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico early Wednesday as part of its plans to more than triple the amount of crude it can stop from reaching the sea, the company said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

... while totally ignoring the contaminants and pollutants pouring into the atmosphere from the fires.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This spill and damage to the ocean floor will be impacting the region for decades, possibly longer.

And it is painfully apparent that neither Obama, nor BP, have a clue as to how to deal with this.

Mr. President, can BP arrest Our Journalists?

Dear Mr. President,

As Prepared for Delivery—

And its only getting bigger...

Department of Energy: Segments of Oil Well Casing Were Violently Ejected Upwards Into the Blowout Preventer

A team of scientists from the Energy Department discovered a new twist: Their sophisticated imaging equipment detected not one but two drill pipes, side by side, inside the wreckage of the well's blowout preventer on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.

Bureaucracy Bungling Gulf Oil Spill Cleanup

As crude oil washes over Gulf beaches, the federal bureaucracy is denying use of effective tools to mitigate damage. Sitting in Norfolk, Virginia, a converted oil tanker is awaiting permission to go to the gulf to help clean up the oil spill from the Deepwater Horizon break.
The ship, called the S.S. A-Whale, a giant oil tanker, was built in South Korea, modified in Portugal, is owned by Taiwanese, and flagged in Liberia. Hence its use is stopped by the Jones Act which has yet to be waived to allow foreign ships to help. This ship has the capacity to gather up 500,000 barrels of oil a day from surface waters. To put that in perspective, the current government authorized fleet has taken 70 days to collect 600,000 barrels of oil.

Large patches of thick oil from the BP Gulf of Mexico spill in the United States have washed ashore for the first time in the state of Mississippi.

"Later, a reporter visited seven oil-affected beaches and saw only one clean-up crew at work."

True Reporting Gulf Oil Spill

The oil slick on the beaches is literally being covered up, plowed under the sand and pollution warning signs are being removed for the weekend.
Just like BP using corexit to keep the bulk of the oil from reaching the surface, it's all about cosmetics and perception. Anything to keep the dumb masses coming and spending their dollars, who cares how many will die from cancer. Here, have some Goo Gone. Of course people should know better and learn to think for themselves but public safety is still the primary job of the government and the authorities. How to maintain business as usual seems to be their only concern. Guillotines!

Panic brews on Gulf coast under suspicions of oil spill media blackout of threats to public safety

A quiet panic is brewing among residents of Florida’s Gulf coast. People are starved for updates and official information, and the lack of them is accelerating conspiracy theories and rumors of a media blackout. Founded or not, to residents they are quite real.
Unconfirmed reports of evacuations have been circling the internet, along with suggestions that they will never be implemented because the scale is too enormous. Why announce a plan that can’t be carried out? That has led to theories that human life is more expendable than political careers and BP’s public image.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is exactly the situation I warned about ten years ago. Because of all the US Government lies, about Saddam's "nookular" bombs, about the economy, about 9-11, about TWA-800, OK City, Osama Bin Laden, Waco, Israel's attack on the Aid Flotilla, etc. the US Government has a credibility crisis of their own making. And now that there is a real emergency, the US Government might actually be telling people the truth, but who would dare believe them after such a long career of deceptions against the American people?

I sure as hell won’t!

Water on Fire: Controlled Burns of Spilled Oil

BP Controlled Burn Crews Have Burned About 4 Million Gallons of Oil, or About Three Days Worth of the Spill

Oil Disaster, The End of Life As We Know It?

“The media coverage of the BP oil disaster to date has focused largely on the threats to wildlife, but the latest evaluation of air monitoring data shows a serious threat to human health from airborne chemicals emitted by the ongoing deepwater gusher,” the Institute for Southern Studies blog reported on May 10.

Any one of these chemicals in these concentrations would be lethal. Mixed together it's truly unthinkable.

OBAMA DECLARES GULF SEAFOOD SAFE TO EAT

He declared Gulf seafood safe to eat...

Webmaster's Commentary:

So we can assume that Gulf Sea Food will be served at the White House from now on?

BP Official Admits to Damage BENEATH THE SEA FLOOR

The evidence is growing stronger and stronger that there is substantial damage beneath the sea floor. Indeed, it appears that BP officials themselves have admitted to such damage. This has enormous impacts on both the amount of oil leaking into the Gulf, and the prospects for quickly stopping the leak this summer.

13 foreign nations who have companies with the expertise on this kind of disaster have offered to assist, but have been rebuffed, until now:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/13/AR2010061304232.html

BP Refuses to Allow Scientists to Test Oil Spill Samples

Scientists in Florida are concerned that large plumes of oil floating beneath the surface in the Gulf of Mexico originated from the Deepwater Horizon spill, and want to test their samples against oil collected by BP. But the oil corporation is refusing to cooperate.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to every single US Congressional Representative and to President Obama: no matter how much money you have received in overt or covert campaign donations fro BP, BP must bear full financial responsibility for fixing this catastrophe it has created, period, end of discussion.

The American people, in an election year, will be watching very closely about how you handle this.Any attempt at forcing taxpayers to pay for a disaster they had absolutely no part in creating will be met with a degree of fury you cannot begin to imagine.

BP to sell spill oil from Gulf well

Fill her up with spill oil? When British Petroleum sells the crude from the leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico, the oil could end up at gas stations.

The company did not explain the specifics of how much money will be put into the fund.

All aircraft operations are prohibited except those flights authorized by ATC, routine flights supporting offshore oil operations; federal, state, local and military flight operations supporting oil spill recovery and reconstitution efforts; and air medical and law enforcement operations.

Boehner : Taxpayers–Should Help Pay For Oil Spill

Congressional Democrats and the White House are toying with different ways to force BP to cover the costs of damages from the Gulf oil spill. But they face stiff opposition from industry...and it seems leading Republicans.

What does Schlumberger know about the Deep Water Horizon Accident?

On May 19th Reuters ran a story about employees of Shlumberger leaving the rig of the Deepwater Horizon the very same day of the catastrophe...

...BP contracted Schlumberger (SLB) to run the Cement Bond Log (CBL) test that was the final test on the plug that was skipped. The people testifying have been very coy about mentioning this, and you'll see why.

SLB is an extremely highly regarded (and incredibly expensive) service company. They place a high standard on safety and train their workers to shut down unsafe operations.

Unflipping believable.

But perhaps not doing a "Jones Act Waiver" in this case had more to do with foreign nationals actually seeing the full extent of the devastation the BP disaster had created, and that info going public here in the US, rather than the "info flow" being managed by BP and the US government.
